Walsall midfielder Carl Robinson played a prominent role in the 4-0 demolition of Azerbaijan at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium. Robinson replaced Robbie Savage at the heart of the Welsh midfield after just 17 minutes of play, with the Birmingham midfielder going off injured.

The Welsh had taken the lead after just 15 seconds thanks to an Azeri own goal, but the expectant Welsh fans had to wait until the stroke of half time for anymore goal action. Goals from Gary Speed and John Hartson sewed the game up just before half time much to the joy of the delirious 70,000 Welsh fans packed in the Millennium Stadium.

The second half saw one more Welsh goal, courtesy of a cool Ryan Giggs finish as the Welsh cruised to an easy victory and remained top of their qualification table.

As for Robinson, he sat at the heart of the Welsh midfield along side Gary Speed for the rest of the game and looked comfortable in the company of some truly gifted footballers. The commentating team on BBC Choice Wales commented on what a good game he had had, praising the role he played in the fourth Welsh goal.

Although Azerbaijan did not provide the sternest of tests for the Welsh, it was pleasing to sit and watch a  Saddlers player perform for one of Europe's in form teams, amongst such talented players.
