Former Manager Died Today

The sad death has been announced today of former Manager, Alan Ashman, following a serious illness. This follows closely on the news of the death of the widow of Saddlers Legend, Gilbert Alsop. Alan Ashman will always be remembered as the man who took West Bromwich Albion to their FA Cup success over Everton in 1968.

To Walsall fans, however, he is the man who rescued the club from the mess left behind by Dave Mackay leaving us for the Middle East.

He only had one season in charge of the Saddlers, but always had a reputation for being one of football's nice guys.

He will be sadly missed.
