John Butler, JB, is ‘Ambushed!’

It was a surprise, a series of messages that MI5 or MI6 would be proud of and furtive whispers.   But it was all worth it! 

Last night at BBC CWR , Priory Place, we were very lucky to be at a recording of a very special programme.  Call it what you will, inveigled, hoodwinked or misled, John Butler , attended, what he thought was a Coventry Rugby Fans Forum.  To say John was ‘ gobsmacked’ that he was the subject of a ‘ This Is Your Life’ special programme was very evident.  
 
The audience, with a panel that included Executive Chairman, Jon Sharp, Club President, Peter Rossborough and current player Toby Trinder , with thanks to Clive Eakin’s best Eamonn Andrews impression, ran through John’s many roles at Coventry Rugby and also featured moments from his 52+ years of broadcasting.
Mr ‘Roving Mike’ on the evening was Richard Moon. 
 
There were many tributes during the show, a few treasured memories and a fitting tribute to John, Club historian, stats supremo and all-round legend, who is retiring after Saturday’s London Scottish game. 
 
If you can spare an hour of your time, then listen to the proposed broadcasting  of this programme, it is hoped to be next Thursday, June 5th, between 6.00pm and 7pm.   This will be on the BBC CWR frequencies 94.8 FM and 103.7 FM .  You can also listen on their Digital Frequencies and BBC Sounds once broadcast.
