With four Championship fixtures taking place last night, it has been rather strange weekend so far, with just Caldy hosting Ampthill this afternoon as the remaining Saturday fixture.
The clashes began with a visit for leaders Ealing to third placed Cornish Pirates, the hosts fancying their chances on their home patch. However, the visitors managed to grab a win, no BP this week, two tries only, but the boot of Craig Willis helping them out with 4 penalties and converting both tries in a 26 - 17 away win. The hosts scored three tries but only managed to convert one. Disappointment for the hosts who drop to fourth following Bedford's win.
Next up, London Scottish hosted Hartpury at the RAG and won a narrow encounter, 29-26. Four tries apiece here, but a Harry Sheppard penalty the difference. The Exiles led 21-14 at the break but just managed to hold off the visitors fight back. A BP win for Scottish but Hartpury left with 2 bonus points themselves.
At Lady Bay, Nottingham, Cov's next destination, hosted Bedford Blues and, despite claiming a try BP , went down 24-34, the handicap of trailing 27-12 at the interval too much to peg back. A BP win for Bedford with another try for Dean Adamson amongst the 5 visitors tries. Bedford climb to third in the table.
Finally, the 8pm kickoff saw Cov host Cambridge who, despite a decent start, were eventually sunk by a 10-try home performance, including a hat-trick for the impressive Toby Venner, speed and sharpness the keys throughout. Tom Hitchcock grabbed a brace of tries and looks better every game. Pat Pellegrini with 5 conversions had a good game, but the speed and incisiveness of his breaks were the standout takeaways.
