On one of those very infrequent Championship Rugby days, five games played , Ampthill sitting this round out, all of the games seemed to go as predicted or expected.
Nottingham eased to a 20-15 win at Cambridge, no BP win, just the three tries to the two for the hosts, a losing BP the takeaway for Cambridge. Two tries for David Wiiliams the main highlight here. Att: 1434
At Goldington Road, Bedford had a nervy BP win against visitors Caldy, 27-14, the Merseysiders living up to their 'poor travellers' tag. Special mention has to go to winger, Dean Adamson, his two tries taking his club tally to 126 in only 175 club appearances. He is now joint second greatest try scorer along with Bedford legends Budge Rogers and Barrie Williams on 125. Att: 2526
Table-topping Ealing maintained their 10 point lead with, in the end, an eight try BP win over London Scottish , the visitors themselves scoring 5 tries in a 52-35 home success. The hosts tries were evenly shared out between forwards and backs. Att: 1051
Honours were even in the top four clash between Doncaster Knights and Cornish Pirates, a 27-all draw. Leading 22-3 , ten minutes into the second period, the Pirates must have expected to take the spoils, but the hosts dug deep despite losing Maliq Holden for punching in the first half. Pirates scored five tries to the hosts three, but discipline was obviously an issue for Pirates, conceding 21 penalties in the game. Three points for each side. Att: 2012
Hartpury v Cov was the final game with Cov winning their first league game there for 10 years, 47-17. A 35-0 interval lead was the basis for this win. Cov's use of the windy conditions, five tries in the half, Pellegrini converting all five. Centre Will Wand was the main beneficiary of the pack dominance scoring four league tries to equal Andy Smallwood's long standing record. Cov even played the last 19 minutes with 14 players, all replacements used and a bad looking injury to replacement forward, Jack Bartlett. News is awaited on his injury. Two late tries for the home side were mere consolations as they fell to a dominant Cov side. Att: 1202
