Coventry Rugby team announced to face Hull Ionians...

...at home on Saturday 30th January 2016.
The Coventry Rugby team has just been announced that is at home at the Butts Park Arena this coming Saturday 30th January for a 3pm kick-ood against Hull Ionians. The team shows 11 changes including 2 positional ones from the starting line-up that lost so disappointedly at Plymouth Albion last week.
In the pack Andy Brown and Chad Thorne return after injury to the front row, whilst at lock Martin Wolfenden returns after suspension in place of Sam Pailor, who reverts to No 6 in place of Haloti Molitika. George Oliver returns at No 7 in place of Dan Carpo who goes onto the bench.
At fly-half Cliffie Hodgson returns in place of Caolan Ryan who reverts to the bench, with full-back Gaston Mieres going onto the wing in place of Ryan Hough, with Dom Lespierre returning on the other wing in place of Peter Weightman. Gaston Mieres place at full-back is taken by Scott Hamilton with George Worth and Callum MacBurnie taking over in the centre from James Tincknell and Rory Hutchinson.

Adam Parkin is nowhere to be seen. Is he not available, injured, or is Andy Brown preferred?
I am a little concerned with the timing of wholesale changes. Can it wait until we are a little more safe regarding the league table? Remember, our next 2 games are Fylde and Rosslyn park away. Just saying
At full back Gaston looked great against Richmond joining the line in attack, scoring one try and making another. Will he be anonymous this week? I certainly hope not.
I can't deny I'm perplexed and bemused at this team selection. I need to be very careful because I questioned the team selected to play Richmond and was forced to eat my words, so I'm excercising discretion here. But, in the light of the much vaunted injuries which we're accumulating, and which are proffered as the reason for us not being able to put out our first choice selection, we then go and make eleven changes. And those changes don't reflect the return to fitness of all the injured players - several are still not available. So why change so much of the team?
And possibly an even more pertinent question- why play Scott Hamilton?

By all accounts the backs were the problem last week so perhaps SH is in as an old head to help make the right decisions?

I like the look of the team with the exception of moving Gaston to the wing. A place where I think we all agree is lonely for our boys this season with little ball thrown in their direction. For me Gaston has proved his class and should stay at full back with any of the wingers playing. I think the inclusion of Scott is negative as his playing days are obviously coming to an end. Otherwise I am quite happy with the team and hope we get a result playing good rugby for the supporters to watch and enjoy

I wonder if this is a bit of a knee jerk reaction to the loss (even though most of us didn't expect to win) or due to injuries? However im also with Bono on what he said.
I really do think putting Gaston on the wing is a massive mistake. Based on the style of play we have been playing this year he will just be standing there not getting the ball. :-(

A mistake in the list Tom issued, corrected by the time of the match.
Andy has played 16 games so far this season, starting at 1 in 14, and coming on as a replacement once at 1 & once at 3.
Adam has played 9 matches this season starting at 3 for all 9
Chad has played 10 matches this season, starting at 3 for of them, coming on as a replacement twice at 3, and coming on as a replacement once at 1.
With cov not playing wide rugby anymore. the wing like bono said is a lonely place at the moment. My concern is will the wingers we have got want to stay at cov next season with this style of play.
Which is why they have dropped the centres who don't tend to pass and bring in centres who are more likely to pass.
Not sure why the fuss about changes, Andy Brown and Chad Thorne seem to be our first choice props so if fit bring them in.

Looks a decent team in my book. I am advised that Wolfie is not fit enough to play 80 mins though. I still can't get my head around why Dev is not getting more starts or perhaps even replacement appearances.

Yes, thought Dev would start this one. Has only had only 3 starts this season.
as much as it hurts to say it the incumbent hooker is actually the leading try scorer for the club with devlin third from top try scorer.
We all have seen now how scott hamiltons legs have gone and has been regularly skinned for pace, it really serves no purpose him playing.
It will be a hard game with the two packs evenly matched away at hull. With them wanting to secure their future in the division being on the cusp of the battle for the third relegation spot

agree totally re gastons position, and startin the coach at full back. wolfenden must also b ea risk given lack of match practice. i've been to to of last 3 games at bstreet and he hasnt played.
cov need to play in right areas on what will b ea heavy pitch and pressure them rather than put ourselves under pressure.if we do that, dominate the scrum and lineout, tackle everything and dont concede penalties we should win-simples!

Following my comments above I am now doing a CB and apologise to Scott for ever doubting his ability or pedigree. Probably the best game he has had for Coventry and certainly a man of the match performance
Interesting about Scott, yes he probably had his best game for the Club, certianly his second half performance was outstanding, but his first 15mins were not memorable, MOM was a tough one for me, i thought Sam Pailor had a very good game as did Gaston, who i believe is without a shadow of doubt, the best player we have bought in this season, one to keep hold of for next Term.
My MOM would have been Sam Pailor I think, followed closely by George or Danny Wright who had a very good game especially considering his lack of appearances so far this season.
