Coventry's latest recruit Mark Hodgkiss is settling in to life at the Butts Park Arena and raring to get back on the field.

The 25-year-old South African centre arrived in the city on Friday and saw his new team-mates in action for the first time at Esher the following day – not, perhaps, the greatest of introductions as Cov suffered their first defeat in 19 games, but a chance to acquaint himself with the rigours of National League One rugby.

“It’s nice to be here, everyone has been very welcoming, and I’m definitely excited to come over and play in the UK,” said Hodgkiss, who has played sevens for Western Province and been part of their Currie Cup squad.

“I got in touch with the club through my agents, Coventry said they were looking for outside backs and centres to bolster their own strengths, and I knew they were a good club to come to.

“I’m excited to come and prove myself, and get a starting berth as soon as possible. I’m happy while I acclimatise just to be a part of the squad, but hopefully I can make the match-day 20 in the next few weeks.

“It’s an exciting time to arrive at Coventry as they are pushing for the Championship and any contribution I can make I will be happy to do to try to get Coventry back where it belongs.
