Happy 100th birthday to Coventry RFC legend Harry Walker...

Coventry and England’s oldest surviving player, Harry Walker, celebrates his 100th birthday today.

Walker, who is Coventry’s club patron and attended last week’s game against Macclesfield, will mark the occasion with a party at the Butts Park Arena this weekend and will be a special guest of the RFU on March 14 for England's Calcutta Cup game against Scotland at Twickenham.

“For anyone to reach the age of 100 is amazing, but for someone who spent decades delivering first class performances in the brutal world of the front row, it is astonishing,” said Coventry president Peter Rossborough.

“Harry’s off-field contribution to Coventry and Warwickshire over the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s is equally awe inspiring, and generations of players have benefited from the enthusiasm, knowledge, determination and leadership of this astounding man.”

Would you please send Harry Walker the best wishes and congratulations from those at Ebbw Vale RFC who remember our meetings with him when we enjoyed the pleasure of his company before and after matches home and away in the 70s and 80s.
