Coventry charge goes on with a seventh successive National League One victory to give them their best winning run since the 2000-01 season.

But it was an afternoon of both delight and frustration as, not for the first time this season, a commanding first-half performance was followed by a second 40 spent on the back foot which threatened to undo all the previous good work.

Cov looked unstoppable in the opening period as they strung their phases together and opened up a well-drilled Darlington defence in impressive manner, securing their four-try bonus point in only 26 minutes to turn round with a 29-3 advantage,

They had a warning, however, right on the break when the visitors broke out and were only a fingertip away from a try, and when Park predictably came back out with renewed purpose, Cov struggled to respond.

The momentum shifted, Cov lost their shape and their discipline, and by picking up three yellow cards they made life so much more difficult than it needed to be.

But despite twice, briefly, going down to 13 men and playing for close to half an hour at a numerical disadvantage, the saving grace was Cov’s commitment and spirit in defence, and they did well to limit Park to just two converted tries and make sure they secured the maximum points warranted by their earlier work.
