A sunny evening saw Coventry run in 9 tries against a spirited home side, who play in Welsh Division 1 East. Coventry [tl1] Rugby, with a number of guest and trial players took time to settle and over a game of 4 quarters, the home side made the better start running in 4 tries before half-time, before a Coventry fight back saw them getting 3 tries, making the half-time score Merthyr 22 Coventry Rugby 21.The third quarter saw Coventry start to take control, especially in the scrum, with Guido, Price and Sandys prominent in the front row. This third quarter saw only one try for the visitors, but the final quarter saw Coventry take full control, with 5 more unanswered tries, leaving the final score Merthyr 22 Coventry Rugby 57.The game came at a cost for Coventry with a serious looking injury to Roan Van Heerden.

Cardiff RFC 30 Coventry Rugby 25

Another lovely day at Cardiff Arms Park despite the Taff  blowing a gale. Coventry ran out with just Dan Rundle and Wayne Evans on from the new signings. On the artificial pitch it took Coventry Rugby time to get used to the bounce and how to turn, as they found themselves down 15-3 after 20mins.Another Hodgson penalty and his own converted try on 30 mins put Coventry back in the match. A yellow card against the home side gave Coventry the impetus in a 5m scrum allowing Jacques Le Roux to surge over, giving Coventry a 20-15 lead at half-time.

The resumption saw a classic try by Will Hurrell after a pass by Davies, giving Coventry a 10 point advantage. Cardiff stepped up a gear and on 51 mins saw them gain a penalty and then a try after a series of 5m scrum so. Another series of 5 m scrums led to the leading try by Cardiff.

The final quarter saw Coventry take control especially in the scrums, and with 10mins to go a series of 5m scrum on the home line led to a number of penalties and re-sets. Just when it looked likely that a penalty try would be given a judicious injury to a Cardiff prop led to uncontested scrums.

Good home defence kept Coventry out for the final 10 mins.

An injury to prop Andy Brown saw Guido Cambarero come on and he and Rikki Stout started to dominate the scrum.

Overall a hard working performance with no quarter given by both sides.

The odd bounce of the ball on the artificial pitch, especially in the strong wind will make Ealings away game interesting.
