Coventry Rugby are delighted to announce that Newport Gwent Dragons scrum-half Wayne Evans has become Coventry’s 7th new signing for the coming season. Former Welsh U 18’s and U 21’s player as well as being a member of the Wales 7’s team, Wayne brings a wealth of experience to the Coventry club, having joined Cardiff Blues in 2005, before switching to another Regional Welsh side Newport Gwent Dragons for the past 7 seasons, where he amassed no less than 161 appearances, the second highest ever appearances by a player for the Dragons.

After 9 years as a professional rugby player Wayne had been offered a career outside of rugby with a position in the Skill Group a leading UK wide and International Training Provider that former Welsh International Nathan Brew set up. Wayne still wanted to play part-time with an ambitious club and Coventry Rugby fitted the bill, especially as two of his previous team-mates Coventry’s Head Coach Scott Morgan and fly-half Matt Jones were now both at Coventry Rugby. Wayne, still only 30 feels that he has plenty to offer the game.

This point was also emphasised by Scott Morgan stating that Wayne has great rugby knowledge and game management skills which are so important in National League 1, and is well able to direct the forwards. He should also settle in well having partnered Matt Jones in the past. An ever present in the Dragons side Wayne has experience both of playing with a host of international players as well as in Heineken Cup rugby.

This important signing for the Coventry Rugby club gives an added dimension to the Coventry side whose current squad is becoming a balanced one of both youth and experience.

Pierre can only benefit from having players of this quality around him. IMO he will learn and become a natural replacement for Wayne when he decides to hang up his boots. Welcome to Wayne

Totally agree, if we had a few old heads last year to steady the ship, I am sure we would have had a few closer matches. The differnce when Scott either went of or failed to play showed this point in many matches. Welcome Wayne, just waiting for the rest of the new signings to be announced.

Where did we go wrong so many time last year, When we lost the plot because no one was really calling the plays.

If this guy is as good as they say we could be back to the sort of games we had when Shaun Perry controlled the game and made it easy for everyone else.

Really looking forward to the season now.

Nice to have a player with Waynes experience,we now have three s/halfs for one position yet only five for centres one of which will play full back or wing.

I think 3 scrum halves, one of whom is academy level, is perfectly reasonable. The squad, after Barker's departure was understrength in this position last season imo and needed strengthening.
