Once again what has been planned in training appears not to be implemented on the day. It would seem that Morgan's strong words have not been listened to. Or do the players think they know better? Or are they simply not good enough?

Two things went wrong on Saturday.

We gave away three tries by poor kicks from the backs. All three tries came through bad kicks - two charge downs and a poor chip.

We made mistakes when pressurising the opposition, and failed to score tries.

I would say that the first was largely caused by a selection that didn't work. The late changes resulted in a player playing out of position, when there was an obvious better selection available, and cover for him from the travelling reserve. They'll know for next time.

The second problem was trickier. There were too many mistakes, too many penalty offences. Brett Daynes's Yellow card came from pulling down Blackheath's maul in the red zone and was inevitable at that point. It came though at th end of a series of penalties which took us from attacking the Blackheath 22 to back defending 5m out against a maul. c Ten minutes around half time conceded ten points - but the real problem wasn't that, it was that we weren't scoring.

The replacements in the second half gave us an advantage in the pack. As the game went on we were taking scrummages against the head, unlike earlier in the game when Blackheath were at least even, and even dominating up front. The problem game when we got possession we didn't have the finish to score. We took the wrong option too often and made too many mistakes.

I think you've hit the nail on the head, in that we just can't create and finish scoring opportunities at the moment. This is unlike the first part of the season when we seemed to be able to scoring almost at will.

Not being able to score does not make it "inept". PM needs to concentrate on the squad and getting strength in depth,enough to at least challenge in this division.

lets face it, were stuck here till we do. This season has gone.

Pah! Since Christmas the Silver / Jones partnership has been broken up .Which centres should we play? Where should we play Cliffie? And on Friday/ Saturday we have a late injury to the full back Knox. Luke Myring is ill. Should we put Cliffie back to full back, where he has played most of the season, and play Jones at 10? No , let's put Kohler, our potent winger, who kicks the ball probably 30 times all season at full back and see if it works out .Well, surprise, surprise it didn't work. And to then criticise publicly the kicking and the performance of the backs is a bit rich. Is it any wonder we've stopped scoring points? Where has it all gone wrong?

Ineptitude? Players? Coaches? or The General Manager?

One constant- inept.

I agree titchy, I'd does seem odd that in view of the circumstances we didnt just move cliffie back to FB and put jones back at fh. I'm not joneses greatest fan, but it would have been the prudent thing to do.

Fully agree with Nige H and titchywinger. Odd selections but a fact finding mission in a loss. Barry at 15, leave the two gingers on the wings, james and cliffie in the centres and jones and the french lad as half backs. Cant comment with the pack, never understood what went on with the bigboys anyway. The split on the bench is important, but a real pain as we only have 5 in this league. A scrum half is always a good option as they usally can play in several positions and 4 forwards ! Lets get behind the boys and give it to the opposition on Saturday. Come on Cov.

Barry at FB would have been tricky, when he was sitting injured and unable to run.

The usual split in the 5 replacements is two front row(required), one other forward, two backs.

phil and scott have their ideas as to what went wrong, inept is an intreasting word, probally sexed up by the Telegraph reporter. Wouldnt have thought Mr Maynard would have used that choice of word, possibly a little more anglo saxon !. Coaches/players and all staff will sort it out. Lets set out the stall for 14/15 and see the bigger picture.

I was standing by the interview as it was occurring outside the clubhouse at Blackheath, waiting for a quick word with Phil.

He used exactly that word, with no swearing and there was no need for the reporter to 'sex it up' - as if John Wilkinson was the sort of reporter to do so anyway.

I was at the game too in my 'other role' and saw Davis limping around, hence my comment on the'odd selection'but my choice was the team, when fit!. Your two ginger wingers are great additions, and the backs do fire when they are set free. The young french guy looks to have a quicker pass which would give 10 a little more time to make better use of the ball. When the ball moves wide Coventry play so much better. Roll on saturday. I am elsewhere looking at other players this weekend, will await your views of the game. Here's to a good win.

Not at all slapped Tigerboy (apart from the idea that you might be a L*******r supporter ;-).

I agree totally with your comments on the wingers, and certainly felt that Mark was wasted at full back. Still - it's (I hope) a lesson learned for the coaches and better done now that early next season.
