A Christmas message to you!

By Unofficial Coventry Rugby
December 24 2013

It is once again the time of year to reflect upon the past twelve months, to remind ourselves on what has been achieved throughout 2013.

First of all let’s take a look at the playing side of the club.  There has been a change in the coaching structure with Scott coming in as head coach.  He has had an impact in the recruitment of this seasons players, where we have without doubt gained a lot stronger team and squad than last year, and that is down to bringing in the right type of player.  Obviously, this is not only down to Scott, Phil would have had a big say along with Aggie and Pete.

From a playing point I have thoroughly enjoyed the style of rugby that we are playing, it is entertaining without being careless.  I do believe we will be in the mix at the end of the season; we have players coming back from injury, and like it or not the influx of loan players will be a positive addition.  Credit must go to the coaches for the type of rugby we are playing and to the players who have brought into it.  To play a quick style we need a good pitch, and this is where I ask Eric to take a bow, well done young man, and to the board in funding the improved playing surface.

Behind the scenes we have the unsung heroes and heroines.  Without these truly amazing people our club would not function, as a supporter we take for granted that the phone will be answered, the gates will be open, kits are washed, ball boys are there on time and know what to do, the bar has enough beer and staff, there is sufficient food, and there is a lot more to be thankful for.  So on behalf of supporters we thank you sincerely for your time, effort and commitment, you are all stars.

I would also like to pay tribute to the board, they have steered the blue and white ship out of stormy seas, and into calmer waters. Steadily and purposely their vision for the future is becoming reality.  We are a long way from the finished product but we are certainly going in the right direction.

I would like to pay special thanks to those who have contributed to this website.  Tom Little is turning into a legend in his own lifetime; he is a gentleman and a scholar, and I am honoured to call him a friend. Coventry Telegraph have two fantastic correspondents in John Wilkinson and Brian Dick, there work is always a joy to read.  Away from the website we have John Butler at the BBC. I always enjoy his half-time reports at away games and his show ‘RucknMaul’ on Monday evening.

And finally to all you fantastic readers and contributors of this website, I will be forever grateful for your support, without you this website would not exist.  Have a wonderful, peaceful Christmas and a prosperous New Year.

I would like to echo those sentiments, with thanks to all those involved. Tighten it up, keep possesion and be a bit more streetwise and we will be there. Promotion from the National is rather like getting out of a barrel of treacle wearing hobnail boots.

I agree with your all your comments, there is a light burning brightly at this time of year.

Lets hope we also get into the light before too long.
