The Tigers missed the chance to go top of League One when they were held 1-1 at Chesterfield. The home side had Derek Niven sent off on 54 minutes, but a subsequent goal from Junior Lewis was cancelled out 8 minutes from time by a goalkeeping error...

The Tigers struggled against a gutsy Chesterfield team who dominated the first half. Referee Fred Graham, who was responsible for some debatable decisions, disallowed an early Mark Allott effort for handball and would later order Spireites manager Roy McFarland from the dugout for his continued protests. In the 22nd minute Aaron Wilbraham had a shot tipped onto the bar for the visitors, but Jason Price's following header was cleared off the line and the match remained goaless at half-time.

Derek Niven was sent off on 54 minutes for a second yellow after pulling down Nick Barmby, but City failed to make the one man advantage count until a 74 minute corner saw Junior Lewis fire home to put the Tigers ahead. However Chesterfield fought back and deservedly earned a point when Hull keeper Boaz Myhill attempted punch 8 minutes from time only succedded in finding his own net.
