On Tuesday 10th September, Sheffield United Football Club will face Division 3 outfit York City at Bramall Lane in League Cup Round 1. The last time these two met in the same competition was in 1981, also in 1st round. Unlike this time their were two legs to the game. United won 1-0 in the 1st leg at Bramall Lane as Kenworthy struck home a penalty in front of 6,702, Hatton got on the score sheet as the Blades drew 1-1 at Bootham Crescent.

The Blades also played York in the league that season in Division 4 (United finished league champions), United won 4-0 at Bramall Lane and completed the double after a 4-0 victory at Bootham Crescent
