Sheffield United have completed the signing of Middlesbrough striker Dean Windass, reports BBC Radio Cleveland. Windass, who was on loan with the Blades earlier this season, has moved to Bramall Lane on a free transfer.

United have spent weeks trying to convince Boro to let the 33-year-old join, but the Premiership club had hoped to receive a fee.

Windass goes straight into the United squad to play Sheffield Wednesday in Friday's Steel City derby.
