Siena Confirm Maccarone Signing

Italian Serie A side Siena have confirmed the signing of Middlesbrough striker and Uefa Cup goal hero Massimo Maccarone on a free transfer.

The 27-year-old has signed a contract until June 2010 and rejoins a club with whom he enjoyed a loan spell during the 2004/05 season.

The former Italy international joined Boro in a club record £8.15million transfer from Empoli in 2002.

He has made 102 appearances for the Barclays Premiership club, scoring 24 goals, but has failed to hold down a first-team spot at the Riverside this season.
