Ian McCall got off to a winning start as Dundee United manager against Motherwell ( suprise suprise ), a result which sends us to the bottom of the table. DUNDEE UNITED 2 - 1 MOTHERWELL


Motherwell Manager Terry Butcher had to bring in new faces to his side due to injuries to Dirk Lehmann and Khaled Kemas he also had Dubourdeau and James McFadden missing from the side due to suspensions. Steven Craig continued up front with David Clarkson but failed to create any real threat. Stevie Woods and Stevie Hammell also started replacing Dubourdeau and Cowan from Wednesday's line up at Rugby Park.

It wasn't just a good day for new Dundee United manager Ian McCall, on loan defender Andy Tod from Bradford got his first goal on his debut after only 5 minutes. Tod broke away from his marker and rifled a Charlie Miller corner through the Motherwell defence and Stevie Woods and into the net from only eight yards out.



Dundee United were reduced to ten men after 18 minutes when goalkeeper Alan Combe was sent off for bringing down David Clarkson and stopping a goalscoring chance although it appeared Gary Bollan could have been the last man, Derek Adams took the penalty and equalise for Motherwell.



Motherwell failed to take advantage of their guests playing the majority of the match with ten men and were punished in 67 minutes by Charlie Miller who scored from 12 yards out.
