According to Skysports and the local press in and around Sheffield, Wednesday Manager Paul Sturrock is contemplating a move for Hume who scored for Rovers against Sheffield Wednesday in both League fixtures between the two sides last season.

This is not the first time Hume has attracted interest from elsewhere with Norwich City always monitoring his progress it seems.  Furthermore, the young Canadian was the subject of a bid last season from Championship side Preston North End and when it appeared he may well be leaving Prenton Park, he instead committed his future to the club, to the delight of Rovers fans.

Hume is under contract with Rovers until 2007 and will therefore command a fee.  It is thought that Wednesday are considering a bid of around £500,000 which many Rovers fans will no doubt feel is nowhere near enough compensation for the loss of such an influential player.

It is fair to say that Rovers don’t have many flair players but Hume is no doubt one of them and to lose him would be a blow.  Speaking of Hume on Skysports, Sturrock said “He was the best striker we faced last season” which would confirm if nothing else that he is a big fan of our Iain.

Rovers appear to be holding out for a good fee for Ryan Taylor and all Rovers fans can do is hope that the Board do the same with Hume should an firm offer come in from Wednesday.  If Hume was to leave, the arrival of another striker at the club would surely be almost a certainty.
