Oldham Manager Ronnie Moore looks set to raid his former club after confirming his interest in Tranmere’s Gary Jones. Moore who was appointed as the new Manager of the Latics two weeks ago, has confirmed that Jones is one of three targets he hopes to land before next Thursdays transfer deadline.

Moore is also looking to sign strikers Delroy Facey from Hull City and Chris Porter from Bury as he looks to halt Oldham’s alarming slide towards the relegation zone that currently sees them sitting just two points clear of safety with nine games remaining.

 

Jones, whose contract is up at the end of this season, was the subject of interest from Chester City earlier in the season but turned a move to the club from his place of birth.  This time though it appears that Jones is interested in a move away from Prenton Park.  Speaking to Oldham’s Official Website, Moore said:

"I spoke to Gary and it looks like he's willing to come. If we can get him and Facey, you've got strength in there."

One stumbling block to the deal however could be the fact that Tranmere physio Les Parry announced yesterday that Gary has broken a spur in his foot that will rule him out for six weeks – effectively therefore till the end of this season.  This may mean that any move for Jones will be delayed but whether the move goes through this week or not, it is highly possible that he has played his last game for the club.

Jones has played for Tranmere for over ten years over two separate spells.  The first spanned from 1993 to 2000 before a free transfer to Nottingham Forest.  He then returned to Prenton Park at the start of the 2002-03 season.
