Hull opened up the gap between themselves and Tranmere from two points up to four points with a good win over Colchester – one of the teams Tranmere were 1-0 up against, but drew 1-1. These points dropped could be vital come the end of the season.

Luton, top of the league, failed to get anything, after going 1-0 up against Port Vale. Vale turned the game around with a surprise comeback against the League One leaders, who haven’t been in great form of late, and have consequently had their league at the top of League One cut down from nine seven points to the same amount that Tranmere trail Hull by – four points.

Another piece of good news for Tranmere was that Hartlepool lost 1-0 away to rock bottom of League One Stockport County. Hartlepool, one of the surprise teams of this season lie fourth, now lie only four points behind Rovers, with a game in hand, a game that could see Hartlepool go just one point behind Tranmere. Don’t forget, Tranmere travel to Hartlepool on Saturday 12 March, a huge six pointer – following on from away trips to Luton, Bradford and Bournemouth and the huge sell-out home tie on Saturday to Hull City.

Another good result for Tranmere was Sheffield Wednesday, also failing to capitalize on results around them, and getting a 3-3 draw away to cup hero’s Brentford. Hillsborough is another place Tranmere still have to visit this season, on the second of April as it happens, so this result could be crucial in the season outcome.

So as it happens, only one of the top four won this weekend, unfortunately that was Hull. Now come Saturday, Tranmere will have to close the gap to just one point, otherwise it seems hard, and possibly unlikely to get the automatic promotion spot.
