As Rovers prepare for Tuesday night's trip to Guiseley in the National League, our match discussion thread returns once again as Rovers look to build on Saturday's comfortable 3-1 home win over Gateshead whilst Guiseley will be looking to avenge their 2-1 defeat at Prenton Park against Rovers back in late November.
Whether you are unable to make the game for any reason, or even if you are attending, this is the place to discuss all the pre-match build up including team line-up and score predictions, events during the match itself as well as all the post match fall-out and analysis. Rovers playing rather strong right now, and have players to spare (returning from injuries / suspensions). 2-0 to Rovers.

Although the club seem to of started Periscoping at the games, signal depending (as well as the temperature of my hands!), I shall try to get a scope up from the away end if anyone wants to give me a follow - @mischaparry
Can't scope the whole game due to copyright/licensing laws, but I'll do what I can to give people an idea of the ground, traveling support & how we're playing (at half time & full time if possible)

With one eye on Dover I'd start margetts ,GTF and mackreth. What ever the team I'm hoping to win comfortably by 2 goals.
They were poor at PP. Ok it took a last minute pen for us to beat them but they were holding on for most of the game. I'm going for the team to keep progressing and a comfortable 3-0 win

I thought coming into this week we needed 4 points from the 2 games. Looks like we will have to do it the hard way. Absolutely need 3 against Dover now.
Looking at the other results, for me not a good result at all. Hopefully can put it right on saturday

Eastleigh with two game's in hand also could snapping at our heels, those two lost point's could be costly plus our failure to score in open play.
Dreadful performance second half and Subs not brought on to replace the dross on the pitch.
For me Mekki may as well have not turned out for the second half - useless.

Deadly - someone hacked your account! I've never seen such negativity from you in my short time here. I am hesitant to agree as 3 points this weekend makes things look different. A loss likely ends any hope, a draw just keeps us on life support for another week.
Anyone who saw the game able to give a sense of how it could have gone differently? Seems we had the better of the action but again were not able to do anything with it.

hi sub, lets just hope it was a bad day at the office. tails up for saturday. no doubting as to the significance of this weekends game at dover but hopefully we can bounce back with a decent performance and the right result.
It just goes to show how crazy this league is, anything can happen. Keeping the faith in the lads. Dover have a lot of games to play, it's a big deal fatigue for a club with not so many pros.
well if we want to be in the play offs we have to beat Dover so we may as well be in play-off mode already

Unfortunately I have to agree with Deadly. As much as I don't want to sound negative the season is over for me after last night's shambolic performance. To many teams with games in hand sniffing around are ankles, they all won't slip up! Fact is we were rubbish for the first half of the season and although picked up in the second half still fall well below what is required in this league and the inability to score goals is shocking. I hope to be proved wrong but no disrespect to Guisley, we should have won easily.
There is only Dover and Eastleigh with enough games in hand to overtake us! come on guys! dont give up the fight just yet!
eastleighs winner came in the 95th min last night.. we sure could have done without that.
I have consistently argued that Brabin deserves more time but sometimes it is hard to defend him. Having started dominant the game moved increasingly away from us and yet Brabin did nothing to shake things up even though he had the likes of Harris on the bench.
It seems that Brabin fears any opposition and settles for just a point. We are playing catch up and whilst it would be a justified approach at Dover, it is inexplicible at Guiseley. Players have to be responsible for their own performance but management is about recognising when there is the need for a shake up.
It is great that we are still in the hunt for a promotion place but all too often this season we have had games where we seem to under achieve and with each the niggles about Brabin increase

We need 2 of either Braintree, Dover or Eastleigh to hit a bad patch.

The defence looked weak after McNulty went off. Let's hope he's fit for Dover. I wouldn't write off our chances yet but we definitely need the win at Dover. I'm sure there will be lots of twists and turns yet before the season ends. One disappointing result and Gary Brabin being criticised again already.
I don't see how Riley is next in the pecking order. He has no presence and is easily bullied out of it by experienced big lads in this league.

I agree JayKay but Brabin seems to have a problem with Sutton for some reason. I felt the confidence drained from the players when McNulty went off.
For me it became painfully apparent that the leadership on the pitch comes from McNulty and without him they are completely rudderless. They were all over the place after he departed, standing off players and the midfield, Kirby apart, went AWOL. I have no idea what Higdon was doing second half but it wasn't anything of a footballing nature.
Honestly, I thought we looked knackered towards half time and didn't get any breath back during the break.

I didn't go last night but it sounded like a miserable performance on the radio. Even Andy Doyle sounded depressed.

If we could have swapped anyone for that lad Hurst on the right flank at halftime we would have been fine.
Guiseley scored 3 goals last night and hit the crossbar. Luckily for us one was at the wrong end.

It has to be said - Mr Brabin appears to have his 'game plan' which includes his 'favourites - and no subs, even on a heavy pitch / introduction of 'fresh legs' etc, = that's a bad manager, enough said. I wish I could say to him - "please stop having 'faith' in older players - they are just not performing" (one could appreciate 60 mins then a change with subs altering the game to our advantage - it just does not occur). On a brighter note I feel Braintree will start to drop points (look at their run in of games...), which could leave us and Dover in the Playoffs.
My lasting memory of Guiseley was waiting to get in while the hapless gateman couldn't find the key to the away turnstile.

I still believe that Brabin deserves time but I also think that he has not yet done enough for anyone to be certain that he will take the club forward

Talking of Braintree dropping points, I have the same concerns regarding four of our five remaining home fixtures with our relatively poor home form. Forest Green, Lincoln, Wrexham and Grimsby all look tough fixtures to me. Coupled with two tough away fixtures it looks like last nights draw may come back to haunt us. We do have as tough a run in as anyone. The performance last night, not just the result, adds to the concern. Dover does look like a must win game now.

Aye. We're Tranmere Rovers, we're playing Dover, a team with attendences of 500 and we're underdogs. Not only that, but we've got even tougher games after.

I agree one hundred percent with Devon, Brabin has been poor from the off just because we've managed to avoid a few defeats against PE teachers and plasterers doesn't change the outlook. We've some very tough games coming up against proper teams and we are in the line for some of them to open a can of whoop ass on us. The manager, and players have to change the outlook and get at it, if we loose having a go so be it. It's better than rolling over and dying.
There's no place in modern sport for success without taking a risk, gone are the days of steady eddies. All the successful teams and sportsmen/women take a risk, Rory Mcilroy bombing everything, Ronnie taking on everypot, it's all or nothing.

The trouble with Brabin is that he's not prepared to take a chance. We have had problems scoring goals for most of the season because he's played with one striker for most of it. His answer to the lack of goals is to bring in two over weight unfit strikers who to date have scored three goals between them. We showed against Barrow what can be done when you throw men forward.Brabin did'nt learn from that. We have nine games left, we have to play with two up front for those nine games. I very much doubt that we will

ive just seen the guiseley goals on you tube. the camera is a bit far away from the action. maybe i am hopelessly wrong but was scott davies at fault for their first goal. it wasnt clear to see. i think rovers fans were behind that goal so they will know better. also looks as if davies is at fault for their second goal but the ball bobbles just in front of him so not sure if he can be blamed.. even kiirbys goal is obscured.
The second took a horrific bobble. I'm not sure what he could have done to stop it - he got own quickly to a low shot which then popped up over his hands. The first one he definitely should have stopped.
The more worrying thing is the fact that they were allowed shots on goal. For the first one we switched off completely. For the second it was just very weak defending.

I think the highlights video also gives some indication to just how difficult it was to create an atmosphere there. Reminded me a lot of Boreham Wood. Tough to get anything going.
Could that of impacted the players? I'd like to think they'd get themselves up for any game, but I also know that a flat crowd can make you switch off in moments too

I thought the same for both goals that the keeper could of done better. But could be wrong.

A 2-step terrace we were on. Hence finding the concrete slabs and singing "we'll build our own stand"
I'd also like to note that 4 portaloo's for around 600 people was shocking.
We were lucky! 3 of the portaloos were only put in the same day as the match.
