Post Match: Gary Brabin's Cheltenham Reaction

The post-match reaction from yesterday's 1-0 home defeat against Cheltenham Town from Rovers Manager Gary Brabin courtesy of Tranmere Rovers Official on You Tube.............

Following yesterday's 1-0 home defeat for Rovers at home to leaders Cheltenham Town, Manager Gary Brabin was disappointed with the result as Rovers' five match unbeaten run came to an end after the narrow defeat.

Gary Brabin told the Media after the game.....

"We didn't start as well as we would have liked. They scored an early goal and punished us but we had good chances again.  There were two good chances for Michael Higdon and Lois Maynard, but they've headed them straight at the keeper so it's frustrating."

"I thought there were some good crosses into the box. We spent a lot of time in their box but we've not hit the back of the net.  We've conceded a silly goal and not punished them at the other end."

Apparently he also said:-

''Did not start as well as we would like and they came out the blocks and punished us
Wanted a strong official but did not have that today
We looked strong and created good opportunities but that is why they are up there they can grind out results
Lots of decisions went against us today and think everyone felt that and the poor decisions spill into what happened at the end of the game weve got another booking which should not have happened as should have been nipped in the bud at beginning of game
Conceded a silly goal and not punished the other end
Trying to get Higdon up to speed but can see what a handful he is, we need to quickly adapt our play to his strengths
We learn our own lessons
Look at season as a whole and not many teams carved us open, been down to individual errors, we have not been ruthless enough but that aside we are on track for where we want to be
Our realistic target for the season was the play offs anything above that would have been a bonus
Have enough quality to win games it is little margins at the moment
Its hard enough when you are playing the top of the league but when you are not getting decisions it is more difficult
Need to improve on the end product
Got different options now when we are attacking
We thought the Harris management was handled poorly by the ref and now we have lost him as should have been managed better
League is a two horse race now but its something we have not tried to get too much involved in, focus on ourselves and get ourselves right
No one can say we did not deserve at least a point today
Not a lot wrong today, created chances but need to be ruthless
Started too gung ho and took us 15 mins to settle down
Norwood and Higdon look a real threat as a pair
We want to win everygame, some things are out of our control like I mentioned earlier
Lot of games to play, it is in our hands, we need to win games
Conscious not to have done too much with Higdon in training as he has not played much football
When Higdon is fit we will be stronger
Mekki gave something different when he came on
Mekki and Hill probably feel unfortunate they have been left out''

Quite a few things I disagree with there.

I dont think I've ever read such a load of c%$p in all my life. Once again blaming the ref for the defeat. We have to adapt our play to suit Higdon. why? he brings an unfit player into the team and everyone in the team have change the way they play.Brabin has said Higdon is'nt fit and has'nt played much football so why is he in the team. He said that things are down to individual errors, most of them are his.

I disagree with all four of those lines. And much more including............

''League is a two horse race now but its something we have not tried to get too much involved in.''

So we haven't tried for the top two places?

Fortress Prenton - that lasted 3 mins, previously I stated I thought it seemed Mr Brabin had the hang of this league at last (I really wish to withdraw that comment), Mr Brabin has had sufficient previous experience in this league to know what officials were like, what playing systems work, etc, etc - it's no use eight players flogging their all when 3 others just appear to go through the motions (#3 Ride... how many kicks went to the Invisible Man ????, how many tackles did not occur, #29...did not appear to fit into any playing system and would not 'jump' for any aerial balls, GTF - I cannot see this player 'banging in goals' at all - it leaves Norwood and Mekki totally 'out of it'. Several comments from Kop supporters on lines of 'how to disrupt a reasonably balanced side, bring in an unfit mate, Wrong player to sign' - I agree with all, enough said, very annoyed at match end, really felt the season is wasted by these recent signings, jobs for the boys/mates is NOT the answer.

I agree that we deserved a point based on chances.if Higdon isn't fit he shouldn't be playing or at best running his butt off for 60 minutes to get fit not swanning around.
To say not doing much with Higdon in training as he hasn't played much surely doesn't stop him from getting some running in and laying off the pies

Thought we deserved a point...that point being a 0-0 draw as we didn't do anywhere near enough to score.

2 clear chances (Hughes & Norwood) were both straight at the keeper. That sumns up the majority of our chances this season. Whatever happened to basic football? simple passes and aim for the corners when shooting. Make the opposition work. We make it too easy for teams.

The jobs for mates comment is a great shout. GTF seems to be being played just because of that. I do think he can do a job up top (just behind Norwood), but Higdon is absolutely useless. How he got a rave review in the Echo is beyond me!

Want to point out too, did anyone see the video of the Junior Media Team interviewing Mr Brabin?

Young interviewer: "Did the crowd shouting for Mekki influence you to bring him on?"
Brabin: "No, I don't liten to them, I was always going to bring him on"

THEM...?! Choose your words Mr Brabin, we're not simply "them" refer to us as "the fans" or "the supporters" or "the crowd" but to simply dismiss us as them I take offense to personally.

And I don't beleive I took it out of context, due to the tone of his voice at the time, simply dismissing it in (what I saw) an arrogant fashion. I remember hearing in the Q&A that he'd been spoken to about the way he comes across in interviews....clearly he hasn't taken those words on board...

I don't get the reference to the strong ref. Ignoring that ridiculous situation right at the end of the match, I can't say that I noticed him. It wasn't like it was one of those games where there are tackles flying in from all angles - they were one of those teams that turns over possession by being the first to the loose balls.

I did think that we probably did just about deserve a draw though. Their overall play was much better than ours but we did probably create as many good chances than they did.

The ref was one of the better ones we've had this season apart from the daft schemozzle at the end.I don't think we deserved anything.

More drivel from Brabin today ,the poor deluded sod thinks we have enough fire power to reach playoffs this from the team that has the second lowest goals tally in the division ,the only fire power would be if he wheeled a Gatling gun onto the pitch. He spouts the same drivel before and after each game I am starting to lose the will to live 😡
