I think the final play off placings will be settled on goal difference. I hope for a high scoring match with a Tranmere 3-0 victory, we are capable of doing this on present form.

The American contingent likes it 4-1 for the home side, GTF and Norwood bagging 2 a piece. A late concession will lead to 3-4 hours of nitpicking but will eventually give way to talks of winning the league outright. Come on you whites!

Fantastic result, commiserations to all you fan basher as the crowd yet again were impeccable. I even changed stands today and yet again I heard nothing but support for the player, which is more than can be said for the players themselves. At full time not one of them clapped the fans until one did decide to and a few followed. Sorry but it works both way. Just took the sine off the result and position we are now in for me.

Deja vu. Great to get the win. Enough clear cut chances to have won by three or four (oh for a natural finisher!).Nervy moments at the end. Some strange officiating. Perhaps the script is written. Long may it continue!

Well deserved win, looking pretty solid at the back. With better supply we could of had more. Vaughan MoM for me, followed by Jenno. How Maynard got it i will never know?, his end product is woeful.

McNulty, for me. Think ihiekwe had a stinker and McN backed him up all game. Mom Maynard, he did run his socks off though.

You make out on another thread elsewhere that some people have been saying we have the worst fans of all when nobody ever has said that as far as I can recall.
An element of the fans have been rightly criticised for their awful behaviour recently by a number of concerned fans and yet those who dislike the 'fan bashing' seem to have either misunderstood the points being made or know exactly what others have meant by their comments but have instead chosen to ignore it to suit certain agendas.
The fact is the fans the last two games have been great (today particularly) and we have won both games - it doesn't take a genius to work out that there is a link there between actually getting behind the players at home and the ultimate outcome of the games.

Our home versus away form up until recently is also testament to that.
The longer the fans are supportive at home as per the last two games, the less intimidating the home games will be for our own players (and more intimidating for opposition players we hope!) and that can only be a good thing for everyone be it fans or players!
As for today, the best home performance I've seen this season (I missed Chester) with some great football played at times!

You have to say weve thrown this league away. 4th now Grimbsy and Eastleigh with games in hand. Hopefully we keep winning and pray for the top two to loose 5 games we win and draw a couple.

The only time they got near us was twice when ihiekwe slipped over. The rest of the team were 100% other than the final touch a few time

A tough game against a much improved[from earlier in the season]Southport. Some very good individual performances and we are now looking much more like a team than before.
Good atmosphere and backing from both sets of fans.
With any luck we could have had 2 or 3 more but their keeper made some good saves.
I liked the look of their second sub-the number 20 with the famous football name-Jonny Giles.Thought he looked a very skilful player and caused a few problems on our right.[I believe he's on a months loan from Oxford-worth keeping an eye on IMO] It was therefore an excellent substitution to bring on Mackreth to provide extra cover on that side for the last ten minutes.
What can one say about Mr Maamria, their manager. Still the same as when he was at Stevenage except he's better dressed now. Very entertaining watching his antics and histrionics at virtually every decision[he out Brabinned Brabin!!]however outrageous and ridiculous his argument was .
The one that particularly made me laugh was when he went absolutely mental at the fact Norwood was allowed to stand next to their keeper while he prepared to and eventually did clear the ball.Norwood at no stage made any attempt to impede the keeper.
He seemed quite a lot quieter in the second half than earlier-don't know whether anything was said at half time.

Absolutely made up with the win today. Big mac was my man of the match today and looked a class apart imo. Anyone get a good look at the Norwood 'dive' as at the time it looked like he got taken out. Good support again which must really make a difference to the lads when they are trying to close the game out. Only slight concern is we still can look a tad toothless in the final phase of an attack but to be honest 1-0 will do me fine as I can see the team progressing. Swa

From the Main Stand I thought it was a dive if I'm honest but someone I know in the Kop has since said it looked a pen and I suspect it's a better view from there than where I was.
Also if Norwood's is a booking then so is the one by their player just a few minutes later I our area.

A good result considering Southport's recent improvement, but I would have liked the team to get an open play goal, as there is still a slight concern over goal scoring and needing the defense and goalkeeper to preserve scorelines.

Know what you mean AndyMase but Cheltenham AND Grimsby are both above us WITH games in hand .

Another question. Do you think we missed Mekki? I think we did. We deserved to win no doubt but that wee spark of creativity was missing.
Quote:Because his touch past the defender was a bit heavy and the ball was probably going out of play before he got to it? That's the normal reason. I'd have to see it again to say if this was the case. I definitely think there was contact though so it probably should have been a penalty.Eric01 Tranmere
Maybe an innocent question but why would anyone dive when they're in such a good position to create a goal scoring opportunity? Just carry on and celebrate the goal?
Quote:Kenny_Crons
Someone said this earlier but it's no big revelation that we as fans are fickle. We moan and groan (some boo) if the team is losing but we cheer and clap when they win.
It's also a bit 'chicken and egg' when you think about the fans making a better atmosphere by cheering or the players creating it by good play. I think Fans cheer because the team is doing well more than inspiring the team.
Obviously, fan power can galvanise a team and some of our comebacks have been aided by a strong support from the stands. But, in the Southampton match in particular, it was when we scored our first goal that everyone started to believe, not before that.

Was the atmosphere good? Not sure I would say it was really, but it wasn't bad like it was earlier in the season, so its certainly improved. And it has been better since Altrincham really. There was a lot of encouragement at the start and the end, but other than that I just felt the atmosphere was a bit flat. Its probably the lack of putting chances away.
On a related note, is it just me that's fed up with the fact that we only seem to chant Super White Army nowadays. Almost like we've forgotten everything else, although there were a couple of short bursts of Tranmere yesterday.
Quote:coltran
Absolutely delighted, a great win against a much-improved Southport side which keeps us on target for the play-offs. As far as automatic promotion is concerned, if we win all our remaining games we will finish with 95 points. It is hard to imagine one of Cheltenham and Forest Green not exceeding that total, although one of them could collapse. For that reason, realistically we only have the play-offs to acheive our dream. You can't really knock the team for recent performances but only winning these games by one goal is a concern as despite all our possession, Southport could easily of snatched a late goal. Areas for improvement are the quality of balls into the box and players getting into striking positions.
Quote:coltran
I agree Phil but even if GB was able to bring the big target man that he is after, I doubt that he would want to change the formation at the moment. If we play with two out and out strikers, this would probably be at the expense of a midfielder and we run the risk of being less solid as a defensive unit. The Jennings/Harris/Maynard midfield trio is working so well as a unit that it is our main strength. Some of the midfield interplay yesterday was a joy to watch and meant that we kept posession for long periods. However, the two wide men should be encouraged to play more centrally at times and this would add to our attacking options.

another super result . at last we are seeing the white army winning . great crowd happy players . happy fans . all is rosie . now just wondering where the manager bashers have gone
Quote:Matt34
All I saw was Jennings struggling a bit to get some water and a player or two patting each other.
Not a Palm D'or contender at Cannes this year me thinks.
Quote:mini_andy
Talking of players patting.......
After Taylor-Fletchers goal last week, Jennings bent over to pull his socks up I think. As they were jogging past, both Taylor-Fletcher & Norwood slapped him on the ass. What's that all about?

there is a 2 minute video on the official club website of the players lining up next to each other before going out on to the pitch at Saturdays game, the website has stated that, 'we'll be looking to bring you more different angles of what happens on matchday in futute weeks.' hope the future videos will be a bit more eventful and exciting as this one, lol. nothing happens in it, lol.
Quote:Matt34
Not to mention some orange chairs nobody sat on again.
Last time the only exciting bit was when Jennings seemed to have a bit of bother getting a bottle of water out of a dispenser.
I think that tunnel cam facility could become a monotone one trick pony affair, unless they spice it up, which I don't see how.
They would be better having some footage of a Brabin team talk, to see how he motivates people and how many of the players buzz off it or don't give a fig and who is giving it large in the dressing room to motivate the others.
As long as you're broadcasting the footage after the game, then the team you're playing will learn nothing and your next team won't learn anything useful, because telling someone like Jennings he was great second half, won't make your opposition next week think, damn we've got to stop that guy Jennings being great second half, let's double up on him, or get close and give him a cheeky little nudge now and again, because the footage could be after matches so if you use the same system next week another team wouldn't be able to setup as easily to stop you.
