Leyton Orient v Tranmere Rovers Match Discussion

By Deadly Submarine
April 25 2014

If you can't make Tranmere's vital game away at Leyton Orient on Saturday afternoon, why not join in the banter right here with other Rovers fans who are unable to attend...

Following football even at League One level is pretty expensive these days and no matter how much you love the Rovers, it will sometimes be difficult to make the games in person whether it be the lengthy away trips, or for exiles living elsewhere in the UK or abroad, the home games too. As a result, for those fans who can't make some of the Rovers games this season, we at Total Tranmere will be providing this match discussion thread for you to discuss developments with the game.

Stadium - Leyton Orient (Day)

Tranmere of course, travel to Leyton Orient for a vital game on Saturday afternoon in Sky Bet League One, so if you're not going to the game why not join in the banter right here while the game is going on? You could also use this thread to discuss other interesting scores throughout the league as well as discussing this game afterwards if you have been to watch the game live. What you discuss below is up to you but hopefully it can all be focused on one thread to make it easier for everyone to use.

I hope we are respectful of the lap of honour. Regardless of result, it is nice to see a club of our level do well.

They lost their last two games prior to that they beat Gillingham 5-1 and we do not want that type of result today if we're going to lose just make it a painless 1-0 anything better will be fine.

A 0-0 draw even a win 1-0 would be unbelievable given our squad and injuries(Sm132)

Its looking very precarious for us now. We need at least a point today or our destiny could be out of our own hands even if we beat bradford next week. I'll be optimistic though and go 1-1.

2-1 to them my prediction hope i'm wrong.

What are you worrying about? MacMahon will throw Stockton on with 3 minutes to go, after all this approach has worked so well, and created consistency. Why change now? Surely it shows strength of character to stick with a plan in the face of defeat. This is the quality we need in a long term appointment, resilience or is it it inflexibility ?

There's lots of goals against us that have not does us any good
but that goal when Fonners went up for the corner the other day and it meant we conceded the second goal and now it may come back to haunt us.

We now find ourselves in the position even if we win next week it is out of our hands other teams will have to fail to save us.

The time has now come it's over.

So we have to hope Crewe lose at home to Preston, and we draw in the very least. Perhaps we should go to Crewe to cheerPreston on....

Dreadful goal difference - no mooney, no stockton.
Bad season yes, but not one of the coaching staff has demonstrated that they are capable of their role.
Regardless of next week, they must all go, everyone of them.
Not one player has shown signs of an improvement over the course of the season, no sign of shrewd tactical ploys coming off, or successful proactive substitutions.
If we can't afford to sack them, then get them on the turnstiles or in the club shop.

My prediction for next week -
1-1 with the wirral's own Gary Jones getting a late equaliser for Bradford to send us down- and stockton to come off the bench in injury time.

We did dominate second half but we did not really create any chances. Formation was wrong first half, he changed it second half and actually used Lowe as a centre forward oddly enough. But we couldnt seem to get the ball in the right areas, it's been the worst season for so many reasons . I fear for the future .

Why oh why does john Mc make the decisions that he does, when Ronnie went I was all for John McMahon, 3 months on how wrong I was!! Why must we accept that he will take charge next season? We can't put it all down to cost, we need a complete clear out and start afresh. John McMahon has shown that he is inept, incompetent and useless at anything other than being an assistant/coach!

(Sm157)Cassidy wasn't well before the game and Cole Stockton is not ready to be thrown in at this level at this stage of the season.who said this none other than our Manager.

Hello John why the hell(Sm113) play Cassidy if he is not well it's not as if were in mid table, we needed a win or at least a draw. Today to me Stockton WHO IS FIT and perhaps he may have been hungry for the game today would have been better than a poorly(Sm18) Cassidy.

Also why play JLAA who also was not 100% fit you may have been better playing Kirby from the start not ideal but better than a one legged(Sm164) JLAA it was a back to the wall game some how I think you got this well of the mark today(Sm122) and now we're up the creek with no paddles(Sm95).

cassidy& JLAA were not fit - I can't imagine baggie was either.
We dook a chance ! - for pity's sake
Stockton - not good enough - yet you are happy to put him on the bench- why?
To quote Johnty Ponty - another goalkeeping howler!
Deadly Submarine - taking you longer than usual to defend fonners?
Any chance that we can play Mooney on Saturday - even if it is a farewell performance.
Yes fonners has made some saves, but again this proves he is just a shot stopper- and some way from being a goalkeeper - however what is the goalkeeping coach doing, other than giving him a hug?
notwithstanding background issues, three main culprits this season - fonners (work out how many points his cock ups have cost us- not mistakes but cock ups) cassidy and macmahon.

Taking Sub longer than usual to defend the goalkeeper, when you posted about 1 hour 30 minutes after the match ended. If he had been at that match could he be expected to comment so soon afterwards?

As for the result it is no down to other results to keep Tranmere up next week, but that happened last time as well. Tranemre could have beaten Stockport 12-0 and still gone down.

However Carlisle can't overtake Tranmere with the game in hand unless they win big.

Tranmere need to play like they did in the 2 Coventry games and then there's a chance, as Notts County and Crewe could mess up. Personally I hope Crewe stay up with Tranmere and Notts County go down.

Even Houdini would find it hard to escape the mess we now find ourselves in! I fear the worst and with the same management next season, less money if that is at all possible and unable to attract any decent players even for division 2 standards, I fear my my pre season prediction of Conference football in two seasons may be correct? I hope I am not correct but there are far better sides than us in Div 2.

Can't fault the lads for effort (with the exception of JLAA and Cassidy 1st half who were passengers). 2nd half we were impressive but the ball wouldn't fall for us. Some very good football though.

Fon had made some brilliant saves to keep us in the game before the gaff. Their keeper made a gaff 1st half and got away with it. Ours made a gaff and didn't, that's how it goes.

Although Cassidy has received the brunt of criticism (deservedly), Lowe has also not looked sharp last few games, which makes it doubly annoying that Cole has been left stuck on the bench. Holmes looked to be carrying weight.

I too don't want McMahon as manager next season. Too much like Parry. At least relegation (it looks like that now, barring slips by Crewe and Notts) will make sure of that.

We blew a great chance today.

His comments border on the farcical. To quote 'if you do not score goals you do not win games'. He then proceeds to play two forwards whose season has been distiguished by an incapacity to score, onlt this time neither are fit. He argues that Stockton is not ready for such a game. Well one of the factors in that is that he has been overlloked for far too long. He is the only young forward that we have. He is raw but our management team are holding him back rather than taking him forward.

Our finances may not be great but one of the reasons Crewe deserve to stay up is that they are far better at bringing forward their own talent.

There are grounds for releasing many of the playing staff but there is an even stronger case for a totally new start with the management coaching, scouting staff

Next week does not look good past four games we have scored NONE conceded SIX ,we have got to the stage of not being able to score we play today with Cassidy who was not well from before kick off and should not have played if he had been scoring than perhaps take the chance yes,but he can not hit a barn door these days.
Stockton who has at least scored I know only three but more than Cassidy and then for next week we're hoping for Koumas to be fit,but he's not trained for five weeks,JLAA still not 100%

We were in a position for weeks if we just did enough, that being keep the points tally just ahead of the pack so when it came to the last match of the season a win would have been enough to stay up but even that luxury has gone.

If we beat Bradford but that's a BIG IF now as the matches go next week if as I have stated we win that puts us on 50 pts but Notts Co only have to draw to get 50 pts so that puts them above us.

Crewe have to get beat or draw to finish on 48 or 49 pts
and last but not least Carlisle have to lose on of their games to put them 47 pts.

We all know that famous Fat Lady she's not singing just yet but it will take a few events to go in our favour to stop her singing and the biggest part of those events to trigger in our favour is us winning the last game and again that's a BIG IF.

to say that about stockton makes him look a clown, why get rid of sodje and robbo if you don't trust the other attacking option you have????

Still think Robbo being around would have helped us these last few games.....

When your bringing jake kirby on to try and get back in the game you know your in trouble.....yet he thinks he's more ready than cole???

In all fairness i think John Mc is feeling the pressure, he's not a manager and shouldn't be in the job.

If the guys at the top thought staying up was as vital to the clubs future they would have got a manager in....shaded of aldo/sheedy all over again

I still believe we have enough fighters on the pitch to have a chance the final day but again lack of goals is a real worry...

fonners made brilliant saves and then a gaff.
therein lies the problem, you can make as many saves as you like, but they are pointless if you keep making gaffs - and he has.
Defenders will be nervous if they know there is one around the corner, and this has undermined the defence all season.
Unfortunately, we gave him a two year contract.

Just got back late due to huge delays on the trains[somebody nicked the cable near Watford Junction apparently].Have just seen McMahon's remarks the crass stupidity of which has incensed me.

Let's get one thing straight-if we'd have still been playing now,we would still not have scored. We hardly created a chance throughout, certainly not a good one. We have not scored for four games and look very unlikely to do so. We had lots of possession in the second half but Orient regularly pushed us backwards even though we had the ball.

If as McMahon claims,Stockton is not ready to be thrown in at this stage, why is he even in the squad? Why only use 2 subs? Kirby will NEVER be ready to be thrown in at this level/time but.......

At least two of our starting line up[Jennings and Cassidy] were having lengthy treatment during the warm up!!!

Fon Williams' clanger killed the game but why did certain players, particularly Ridehalgh, continually make strong back passes to him on his weaker side? However he was out of order at the end-he made a point of not even looking at our fans let alone clapping them, even though he hugged their keeper.

WE NEED A MIRACLE TO STAY UP AS THINGS STAND. They are that bad.

Week after week at half time we have to watch Fonners have balls drilled at him from 6 yards(ignore the fact he's usually stood on the line, catches, and takes a step into the goal) why don't they just practice clearing balls as that's obviously a weakness- granted the team infront of him don't help by playing so many to him per game.

JM comments show how inept he is, if Coles not ready whys he even in the squad (and in his second? Season)

Totally agree with the comment earlier, you can be the best shot stopper in the world but that's only half the game as a keeper, and all the saves in the world are undone by a gaff.

Still, we've a chance on Saturday so fingers crossed

Ryan Lowe has been apparently pictured elsewhere travelling back after yesterday's match on the train on his own. He also unusually for him did not come over and applaud the fans. Anyone know why?

The trains were such a nightmare out of Euston because of the signalling problems caused by alleged cable theft near Watford meant that many people going to the North West piled onto one train going to Manchester that eventually left about twenty five to eight.Whether he was amongst them,I don't know.

Tranmere can stay up with a draw but a win is a more vital scenario and McMahon must stop using subnormal logic regarding players like Stockton and find a way to rally the team and get them playing for their futures in some cases.

For me, that sort of admission about Stockton, should nail any chance of him being manager next season into a coffin, as it shows a blatent failing at what could to some third parties, be considered bog standard judgement of players.
