Football's worst kept secret confirmed as Lowe pens Tranmere contract

Tranmere Rovers last night announced the signing of former Sheffield Wednesday striker Ryan Lowe on a two-year contract.

The 34-year old, born in Liverpool, arrives on a free transfer having severed his terms with MK Dons in order to move back to Merseyside.

Lowe started his career with local non-league side Burscough, before earning his first move into the professional game with Shrewsbury in 2000.

Spells with Chester (x2), Crewe and Stockport (loan) followed over the next four years, as did over 50 goals, before the striker signed for Bury in 2009.

With the Shakers, Lowe was a roaring success, bagging 53 goals in 100 matches, form that led to Tranmere boss Les Parry tabling a bid for the player.

However, due to the fee involved, Rovers were knocked back and the forward instead joined Sheffield Wednesday, where he scored a further nine goals before joining MK Dons a year later.

Again, Tranmere showed interest in Lowe whilst he was with the Dons, with Ronnie Moore attempting to sign him on loan, but due to Rovers' league position, boss Karl Robinson rejected the bid.

He eventually scored twelve goals in 52 games for the Stadium:MK side, making him their joint top scorer last season.

On Friday evening, the Dons announced that Lowe's contract with the club had been terminated, and he duly joined Rovers on a free transfer.

He joins Ronnie Moore's side hoping to add to a tally of 168 goals in 560 appearances and follows Stephen Foster and Evan Horwood, who both penned two-year deals earlier this week, in becoming Tranmere's third signing of the summer.

Assuming Ronnie doesn't attempt to sign someone with a bit more skill that Bell-baggie has got, then Lowe getting Bell-baggies balls in the hole should be interesting.

Then I ate his Liver.......... with some baked beans and a can of coke.

We definitely still need a winger as for me Bell-Baggie isn't the answer and we let our best ball-crosser (McGurk) leave.

Not sure Thompson is good enough either but time will tell I guess.

It was hard to say as Moore just never mentioned him. Just like 1 or 2 others who never got given a fair chance.
