Swindon Town (A) Live Updates and Match Discussion
By Deadly Submarine

If you can't make Tranmere's game away at Swindon Town in NPower League One on Friday evening, why not follow our live match updates right here and join in the banter right and with other Rovers fans who are unable to attend......
Following football even at League One level is pretty expensive these days and no matter how much you love the Rovers, it will sometimes be difficult to make the games in person whether it be the lengthy away trips, or for exiles living elsewhere in the UK or abroad, the home games too.
As a result, for those fans who can't make some of the Rovers games this season, we at Total Tranmere will not only be providing this match discussion thread for you to discuss developments with the game, but in a brand new feature we will also be providing a live updates service from the game which will include team line-ups, score updates and also pictures and snippets live from the game.
Tranmere of course, travel to Swindon Town in NPower League One on Friday evening so if you're not going to the game why not join in the banter right here while the game is going on? You could use our live updates service to keep tabs on the action at the game whilst discussing all the talking points right here on our discussion thread. You could also use this thread to discuss other interesting scores throughout the league as well as discussing this game afterwards if you have been to watch the game live.
What you discuss below is up to you but hopefully it can all be focused on one thread to make it easier for everyone to use. To follow our live match updates, click on the link below and select the link for the Swindon Town game from the list.
Hope I am wrong but I feel a 2-0 defeat tonight.I also hope I have to eat humble pie later.
Still think that we will be top after the Bury game on Jan 1.
we,re top of the league nearly halfway through games, keep the faith with ronnie and pj-get off his back we owe him 6 million,we could have ended up with stephen vaughan and mark wright-god forbid
Think the lads will be well up for this one, to be top on Boxing day will be a fantastic achievement and spur everyone on over the xmas period when games come thick and fast. Gut feeling is a hard thought three points as we seem better on our travels as of late. On another point, good news that Ronnie seems to have waved his magic wand and Palmer should be staying with us untill the end of the season. Come on Rovers.
bigmart This is getting embarrasing could be a total tonking, 6 games now without a win. Need to win boxing day to get back on track.
There's still the second half tonight to go before we start thinking about Boxing Day
This has been posted elsewhere.
I have just left the county ground
I only stayed for the first half an hour. The biggest pile of sh@t I have ever seen! Mcgurk is the only one trying. Goodison is too slow, marking is non-existent, nobody wants the ball. It is no exaggeration to say Swindon could have had 10 before I left. Biggest waste of £50 ever I was embarrassed and it will be a long time before I go to another game

Listening to the Swindon commentary for an inpartial view.
They said Goodison was awful.
Hopefully we might see a Taylor - Daniels partnership.
If Cassidy is going back to Wolves on Jan 1st, then he must play Stockton for the next 2 home games, no point playing Cassidy now, plus his goal tally has been poor recently.
Happy bloody Christmas. The worst 90 minutes of football I have had to suffer for a long time. Need to play Kay instead of Holmes and Goody I am afraid to say should be retired. Agree with the comment about Cassidy, he seems uniterested. Cole has to play the next game which is a must win game otherwise I fear a sli.de down the league. We can not just rely on two or three players who our all injured at present. I wonder if the club will re imburse my ticket/travel money? Doubt it and just a look trip back home to look forward to. This was a complete and utter horror show. How can it go so horrible wrong. Having said all this we need ti get behind the team on Boxing day and hope they have not ate to much xmas pud.
You get one of those days, but the team will recover, despite the fact the result is terrible.
I doubt Liverpool fans were very happy conceding 3 at home, to a team now 3 points clear of the drop and who would have been potentially in th drop zone on goal difference, if they'd lost and I doubt a late consolation gave people much emotional improvement.
I'm sure when Jose Mourinho lost a game 3-0 to Middlesborough a few seasons ago, Chelsea fans didn't predict an inability to win any trophies and a failure to make Europe
I bet Crawley didn't appreciate being 2-1 up against Tranmere this season and then conceding 4 goals and losing 5-2.
They went out and beat Carlisle 2-0 away in their next league game and have not ended up sliding badly have they?
Tranmere had this game, but they have the quality to bounce back and I'm sure thye will.
Wallace will be back soon and Akpro and some potential new faces coming in, I've heard Baxter mentioned as one, so there's plenty of reasons to still be optimistic.
Then I ate his Liver.......... with some baked beans and a can of coke.
To be fair to Goody hes been ok in the games previous to this, i would say the whole defence let the team down not just Goody. Its fantastic to have someone of his expierence in the squad.
Some of the Swindon fans that have come on here seem to think their team were world beaters last night which is (with no bitterness intended) is laughable.
The fact is we just did not turn up. You could have picked ten fans from the Rovers end and stuck them in front of Fonners and got the same result. De Vita for Swindon looked decent but we made them look ten times better than they played in reality.
They deserved to win and their fans created a great atmosphere too but to make them out to have been brilliant and done a good job on is laughable.
I'm new to the board and can't believe what I've been reading today. I was at the match last night and the one thing that most of you do have right is that we were awful. However, I think you also need to look at the management not just the players for this woeful display.
We were ill prepared and complacent from the management right down to the players. We didn't do our homework on Swindon. They played with passion and desire, closed us down quickly, never let us settle, and had players coming from deep all the time causing us no end of problems. I only wished our players had showed the same hunger and passion to win the game.
My personal view is the formation was totally wrong to start with.
1. Why do we continue to play strikers as wide midfield players especially when we have the likes of Tommo on the bench?
2. Why didn't Ronnie change things after we were 3-0 down after 20 mins (McGurk and O'Halloran swapping wings was his only change!)
3. Why didn't Ronnie change things after we were 4-0 down after 30 odd minutes?
Ronnie's post match comments on the way home really peed me off. Could you imagine the likes of Sir Alex spurting such rubbish if the Mancs had just gone down 5-0 to one of their rivals - I think not. It was an insult to all the fans not just the ones who traveled.
On the plus side
1. Fonners was outstanding again and saved us from a much worse drubbing
2. the young centre half Daniels played exceptional when he came on.
3. we have Wallace and co coming back soon
4. we're still in the mix for promotion
We've just got to use this match as a reminder that we are not invincible and we need put the same preparation and commitment into every game we play in.
For what it's worth my own personal view is that I always prefer 4-4-2. I'd play with Robbo left and Tommo right with O'Halloran supporting Jake up front.
The CB pairing of Goodison and Taylor almost cost us relegation 2 years running, how do we expect to get promotion with the same pairing. I rate McCrystal better than these two
We miss Gibson although he is only young, he is quite mature in his all round play
Attack wise we have never got anywhere near replacing Akpro
With a bit of luck there will be a few postponements today and will be in top 2 ahead of Crewe game
bigmart Journeyman, why were we always going to get a tonking?
Cos thats the nature of League 1 football. Every club in the lower leagues has at least 1 bad defeat at some point, thats ours out of the way (hopefully).

I agree with you totally about Gibson who has been outstanding but I have to disagree with your first comment. You have totally omitted the name Parry-there was no other major reason as to why we were where we were when Moore came back.Having said that,it is well past the time now that Goodison should be in the starting line up-wonderful servant but is 40[at least] and it shows.
strobey Exactly! Swindon did a terrible job. 5 nil was lucky
That's not what Deadly is saying. he's saying that Swindon fans may want to dress up the performance as a champions league final winning standard performance, or something akin to it, but if Tranmere or any team, turn up and look decidely funky by a country mile, it will make any opponent look decidedly better.
The combination of Tranmere being skanky and Swindon at times, doing what must have bene bludgeoning the team, caused the result.
The only way Tranmere could look good and still lose 5-0 to anyone, would be if they played a team like Man City in a cup match and city played their best 11.
You got what you deserved and clearly played well enough to earn the 5-0 win, but if Tranmere had played better at the back and created a few more chances, then maybe a 3-1 win to you, or a 2-2 draw might have been more likely outcomes.
Then I ate his Liver.......... with some baked beans and a can of coke.
Not sure why a fit Thomo would be on the bench ! playing staff under pressure with small squad, rode our luck a few games, I hope that the Tranmere Spirit that was missing will return and this will act a a full stop, and we can push on
