If you can't make Tranmere's game at home to Brentford on Saturday afternoon, why not join in the banter right here with other Rovers fans who are unable to attend......

Article Header - Match Discussion

For those fans who can't make some of the Rovers games this season, particularly the more costly and time consuming southern away games, we at Total Tranmere will be providing a Match Discussion Thread on the Site for every Rovers game.

The thread will allow you to discuss everything from the pre-match build up and starting line-up to the game it as it progresses and the post-match analysis.

Where possible, Total Tranmere staff will post up the starting line-up and substitutes on the thread as soon as it is made known at the game as well as a half-time report on how the game is going for the benefit of those who are unable to make it.

Stadium - Tranmere Rovers (Day)

Tranmere of course host Brentford on Saturday afternoon in NPower League One so if you're not going to the game why not join in the banter right here while the game is going on?

Maybe if you have a friend or family member texting you from the game you can post their views here for others to see as the game progresses.

You could also use this thread to discuss other interesting scores throughout the league as well as discussing this game afterwards if you have been along to the game.

What you discuss below is up to you but hopefully it can all be focused on one thread to make it easier for everyone to use.

Admin staff will try and add the team and updates on the game on this thread where possible whilst there will also be our usual update service from our Twitter feed @totaltranmere so if you are not already following us it may be worth doing so!

Today just summed up our need for a striker. We started really well, got the goal then suddenly dropped off, invited them onto us and got punished. Defensively McChrystal and Taylor were poor throughout, and everytime they went forward they looked dangerous. Rachubka made some good saves, and for once I agree with Les that he kept us in the game.

For me the worry is we just don't create anything. Yes we scored two goals, the second being a fluke, but their keeper hasn't had anything to whereas ours was busy throughout. Tiryaki was knackered after 50 minutes and for me just isn't up to it. If we continue like this we will carry on struggling to score goals, and not win games.

We are now 17th and the bottom four looks ever closer. Baxter going back is also a blow, one of the few players who can actually see a pass. 1 win in 11 is disgraceful and we need to start picking up 3 points, and quickly.

interesting buchs was left out (les on OS) thought zoom did well though.

Both full backs got forward more and we attacked with more men which was pleasing to see. Thought attacking wise we looked good!

Defence 1st half was all over the wicket. But good movement and they are 2 good strikers. 2nd half thought mccrystal got his head/boot on a lot of dangerous balls in and holmes also did great.

Tiryaki put a good shift in but desperately needs a goal for his confidence. Devaney added craft but looks to me like legs have gone which I think les knows. (1st half running back he looked like a stiff)

Overall decent point and much more positive display attacking wise. MOTM for me Welsh put in a great shift and chased down/battled for everything.

Nicely summed up Cadbury

Could have been one of 3/4 players for MOTM though, hard to pinpoint one.

Zoom misplaced about 80% of his passes for some reason? Good result , tough game, could of gone either way. We REALLY REALLY REALLY need a striker or we could have a relegation battle on our hands

Thought it was ok performance homles goal was a flook but if didn't go in it had be a penelty because it was handball. I say it time again at the match majority of teams we come up against have a lot of pace which I think we need if anything I wud like to donaldson back he had pace also like to see a new forward muzzy but in a great shift but struggled in final 15 he needs someone to play of cut his work load in half

A good battling point against a strong side that really knew how to use the long ball. I thought Zoom was a bit shaky in the first half but recovered in the second. Don't think Tiryaki is up to this league, he doesn't attack the ball or possess a poacher's instinct. Oh for a Jordan Rhodes!Baxter will be sorely missed if it's true he's gone.

Pity we seemed to sit back a bit after we took the lead, this ends up with us losing out in the long run,Brentford are a good team move as a unit in the end went in front,it`s a pity it takes us so long to put a bit urgency into our game but again it alls falls down because we have no real striker up front this lets us down,oh and when we defend a corner why is their nobody left up front on the halfway line in case of a break away again a case of not a point won but a case of two points that got away.
We need a striker asap and some wins in our points table we are getting to near the drop zone.

Tranmere could have Donaldson back, but Robbo is good in the slot. Let's not forget he got a goal and 2 assists in 5 games before getting crocked.

Donaldson was reckoned to be good for the short time he played for the club, but the club have Robinson and a striker is needed more.

Tranmere would also benefit from Goodison and Raven when they are back fully fit. Holmes is seemingly taking his chance to impress and might keep Raven out, but Goodison is a big player and will add confidence and stability to the team, as well as Fon Williams, because Rachubka is good, but he isn't the Fon and I would also add, I think Fon Williams is possibly the best keeper in league 1.

A good start with the early goal and we passed the ball around very well for the first 20 minutes or so but we really struggled at the back to cope with alexander and donaldson as their movement really unsettle ash & Mcchrystal.

Overall we probably just about deserved a point although with baxter returning to everton we really could do with a signing or two to boost the squad.

there is ever increasing concern over us getting a striker, well tp put this in tp perspective there are 13 clubs in our league with a worse goal differance than us ! so taking that in to account not sure it's all that vital at the moment, I know we need to score more ! but just don't think that that is just the answer alone

Goal difference takes into account goals scored and conceded, we have a fairly decent goals conceded record due to our early season record (6th best in the league), however in terms of goals scored.. their is only three teams who have scored less than us.

26 goals from 24 games isn't enough if we want to be pushing further up the table, sadly.

The goals do need to happen. Tranmere have not scored more than 2 in a game this season and last year it was more than 6 games where they got 3 or 4 goals.

The defensive capability will return with Goodison, though Holmes might keep Raven out and Fon Willaims as well, just for a slight confidence boost at the back. Rachubka is good but I think Fon Willaims has the edge for sure.

The trouble is though that there's not much scope for loans because of the weak finances, so another option is use Robbo, Goodison or Labadie as a makeshift striker, but I'm not altogether keen on that. It works for Everton with Cahill, but it's an unknown quantity at Rovers.

Les said 3 Premier league clubs will get back to him on Monday, so you never know.

What good will getting another striker in on loan do when they are either played out on the wing or isolated up fron on their own? We have Enoch, Chicken, Akins, McGurk and even Robinson who can all play up front you could even put Stockton in there. The problem is not the players it is the way they are set out to play. We can go out and get a 20+ a season man but if he is required to bring the ball down out of the sky 25yrds from goal surrounded by 4 defenders it still wont make a difference.

If anyone needs to see an example of why 2 up front works simply watch the highlights of the Newcastle v Man Utd game. The Toon had 2 men up front never more than a couple of yards apart when one went to win the ball the other immediately ran in behind looking for the flick on. Simple stuff but effective.

With the way we play we would be better off signing another decent defender to try and keep clean sheets for all the use a striker would be.

Afternoon All,

I am a bit suprised nobody has mentioned the linesman on the main stand side and the referee as they were both awful. The game though was probably the most entertaining one at PP for a while and the best I have seen since Preston away earlier in the season. The crowd although small got behind the lads as well which made a nice change even when we were 2-1 down. Very pleased for Holmes and I only hope the goal is given to him rather than the OG.

JonnyL has made a great point and one which I agree with.

It pains me to say it but unless Les stops being so stubborn there's no point in signing a striker as even the best finisher in the world would struggle to get 15 the way we set out to play.

Another defender to me is not the point. The team had a cracking back 5 with Fon Williams, Buchanan, Goodison, Raven and McChrystal, then Taylor after a while.

Kay is fairly reliable, Holmes has come into his own and never write off Backayogo, plus Raven alledgedly plays anywhere at the back.

The main issue I see with defence lately, has been the re-organisation. 3/5 of the usual back 5 missing, forcing players not normally playing together to try and blend, when the back 5 is being rotated through injury.

If the striker is not the answer then for me, the midfield needs to be the answer. Robbo has the chance now Baxter has sadly departed, to get into the gap and get back to the form that saw him get 2 assists and a goal in 5 matches, in a place on the pitch he's suited to.

Getting an alternative player to perhaps replace either Weir or Welsh might be a prudent move, if a stirker isn't the answer and maybe just maybe it is.

Devaney has gotten back into the side and netted, so hopefully more of that will be forthcoming, as to be honest I no longer care who scores, as long as adequate amounts of legit goals keep coming.

That to some extent happened earlier in the season. Admittedly not quite to the freeflowing standards of MK Dons, but after 10 games, Tranmere had about 6-7 different scorers I think and they need it again and now Holmes is pushing Raven, and Goodison and Raven are now declared fit, then the back 5 will get a more "best selections" feel to it again and that touchwood, should boost team confidence.

Whether a striker is the answer or not only time will tell, but if Lateef plays anything like he did last season, (assuming the original poster is actually correct), I will be expecting some kind of bolstered form to come, as someone proven to be able to score 2 in a match and in consecutive games, is a player Tranmere don't seem to possess this season.

Then I ate his Liver.......... with some baked beans and a can of coke.
