Headers from Enoch Showunmi and Ian Goodison helped Tranmere beat relegation rivals Dagenham & Redbridge 2-0 at Prenton Park this afternoon.

A dominant performance from the home side moved them six points clear of the bottom four, with a game in hand to play this Tuesday at home to fellow strugglers Notts County.

Tranmere Manager Les Parry kept the same starting eleven as that which won at Bournemouth last week meaning the team was once again as follows...

It didn’t take long for Rovers to take the lead when Enoch Showunmi met a glorious Aaron Cresswell cross and headed past Tony Roberts in the Dagenham goal after just twelve minutes.

Ian Goodison doubled Tranmere's advantage just past the half hour, nodding in a Joss Labadie free kick from close range for his second goal in as many games.

The job was seemingly done by half time as the visitors posed little threat to the home goal, despite the introduction of former fans favourite Bas Savage, sporting a Spiderman hair cut on this occasion.

The second half brought more of the same in terms of possession, but Tony Warner had to be alert to deny Darren Currie with his feet.

Last week’s hero Adam McGurk was brought on mid-way through the second half, and his powerful free kick had to be tipped over by Roberts soon after.

From the resulting corner a goalmouth scramble involving Ian Goodison and Joss Labadie was ended by Ash Taylor, who inexplicably blazed over from a few yards out.

Late on, Warner had to be at his best to keep out Femi Ilesanmi’s header, before saving from Romain Vincelot soon after.

The result moves Rovers even closer to safety and a win against Notts County on Tuesday will all but seal the job it would seem.

The Dagenham defence didn’t know how to deal with the striker who was fully deserving  of his goal. Other good performances came from Lucas Akins and Aaron Cresswell.
