Rovers defender Tim Cathalina leaves the club after less than twelve months after an injury hit campaign.....

Tranmere Rovers have today cancelled the contract of defender Timothy Cathalina, less than one-year after he joined the Prenton Park club.

Cathalina was one of Les Parry's first signings last summer, joining on 6th June 2010 on a one-year contract from Dutch Eerste Divisie (First Division) side FC Emmen.

However, the right-back, from the Netherland Antilles, only made nine first team appearances for Tranmere in a season that was littered with injuries, his latest set-back being an Achilles injury which has kept him out for some time.

The 26-year old, who came through the youth system at FC Twente, made his debut for Tranmere in a 1-0 win against Bristol Rovers in late September, with his arrival to the first team put back by injury, whilst he hasn't played for Les Parry's side since their 2-1 success over Carlisle United on January 3rd.  Interestingly enough, Rovers won six of the nine fixtures he played in.

Rovers boss Les Parry told the clubs Official Website...

"He's not played as many games as either he or we would have liked due to injuries so allowing him to leave now gives him the chance to begin looking for another club before the majority of players in the summer."

Total Tranmere would like to thank Timothy for the time he spent at Tranmere and wish him all the best in finding a new club and for the future.

Cathalina's departure continue's Tranmere's work in building towards next season, with Max Power and Andy Coughlin yesterday stepping up from the youth team to professional level, whilst Michael Kay and Robbie Weir all also expected to sign for the club in the summer.

A club our size cannot afford to keep injury hit players like Cathalina on the books. Hopefully Broomes will be next to go

broomes contract up end of season so even if he dont go earlier he will go in the summer more importantly we need to get mahon off the books next.

Yeah, that's what I mean Mart, he surely cannot be offered a new contract after the season he's had too, and after putting in a transfer request!

I think we'll really struggle to get Mahon off the books, to be honest. It's now over 12 months since his last game (Easter Monday v Swindon on 5th April). I can't see him agreeing to have his contract cancelled and I can't see another club coming in for him.

To be honest, too, I think Mahon still has a role to play at this club, providing he can stay injury free. I just sadly don't think Les sees him the same way, and only names him on the bench because we've got nobody else.

Tim Cat: big guy, looked like could handle the physical side of the third div, unfortunately was not very good on the ball. Blanchard is a better right back, even weir can play there if kay is out. Wonder of Blanchard will be here next year??

I hope Blanchard stays. For me Cathalina was not a very poor player, he was just inconsistent when he played, what few occasions he did play and Kay would have kept him out anyway.

Cathalina is not a big loss.

Then I ate his Liver.......... with some baked beans and a can of coke.

Blanchard spoke to him and Zoom a while back in the Prenton Park. Both thought they should have both been playing. They both will not sign for Tranmere as they both been badly treated by the club by not playing them.....................

We're going to end up with no left backs to, when Zoom does one for being brushed aside because the manager has personal issues with him and Cressa moves on (I think he will, for some reason.)

Max will be a big loss imo, so so versatile and a decent player to, should of had more pitch time.

If he goes that will be a shame, but if the Americans get in you could see the point, because if someone like Stockton got a pro contract, that's 3 places taken up with youth players, so once Akins, Morrow and Broomes went and Cathalina, you've got a net loss of 1 squad place. assuming Kay, Weir and hopefully Robbo and Warner definitely sign, so you'd need more free places, otherwise you'd have that one place reserved for some kind of gold standard signing. Unless you wanted a squad with 40 players in it, so making more space for upmarket signings, would be beneficial.

I cna see why the club is waiting on Jennings and Cresswell regards negotiations, because they're probably wondering if they will ask for wages, the club could afford on American funds, or ones they couldn't afford on Johnsons funds.

Is Robbo really worth a contract. He never looks fit and seems another that goes from one noggly injury to another.He promises more than he gives. I would only offer a pay as you play contact.We cannot afford another Mahon situation.

Be a shame if Blanchard and Cressa left. I know people question Cressa defensively, but we have scored lots of goals and created chances from his set plays all season. It would be nice to see him develop here.

Blancahrd is a solid league one player, and while technically not gifted, its important you haev players like him in a squad.

I think we'll retain both those players, personally, Ricci. And we need to as well. Blanchard's versatility cannot be sniffed at whilst Cresswell is one of the best deliverer's of a set piece in this division

Robbo set up the goal against Colchester, which was an even more important thing than the one against Millwall, because it was 0-0, not 1-0.

He nearly put away a free kick against Rochdale as well. pity he fluffed that penalty in the abandoned game, but I still feel he has something to offer and would welcome him into the squad again. He still has a few games left as well to prove himself some more so hopefully he will be allowed to do that and do it as well.

i think robbo would be worth a go again. with a pre season under his belt we could well have one of best midfielders in the league.
