Tranmere's youth team were this afternoon defeated on penalties in the Lancashire FA Youth Cup semi-final against Oldham Athletic at the Club's Raby Vale training ground.....

It was an unsuccessful afternoon for Tranmere youngsters on Monday as they fell to a penalty shoot-out defeat at home to Oldham Athletic in the semi-final of the Lancashire FA Youth Cup at Tranmere's Raby Vale Training Ground.

Max Power put Rovers ahead in the game but the visitors equalised before then missing a penalty and therefore a chance to win the tie outright with the last kick of the game meaning that the result and a place in the final would be decided by a penalty shoot-out.

Power stepped up first in the shoot-out to put Rovers 1-0 up but misses for all four of the following penalty takers (Vaulks, Stockton, Healing and Benson )ensured that Oldham didn't have to convert all of their spot-kicks and took a 2-1 shoot-out win leaving Rovers young players disappointed.

Tranmere's youngsters lined up as follows:

Coughlin, Wainwright, Vaulks, Benson, McNamara, Healing, Power, Beech, Appleton, Stockton , Kirby.

ah was a great game Fist hgalf we were better but never scored ! second half they came out stronger and made a couple of changes, tough our lads only played Saturday ! Max took the lead with a stunner ! the whole side played well ! Jake was a bit out muscled and was replaced by Jord homes ! they equalised as we sat off them and allowed the shot ! Andy C too made a few fine stops and right at the end lefty came across and took their lad out ! not cynical but a pen ! just b4 it was taken some unsporting lad shouted "it's going way over the bar this " and sure aenough it did ! they won the shoot out we were surprised no extra time straight to pens and well they didn't miss as many as we did ! Andy C stopped three, good match enjoyed it but shame no final this year ! well done to all the lads MOM Will V again ! but he wasn't on his own !

good report. crazy shootout and not really bad peno's but very good saves!

Most has been said thought was great the way we play from the back andy c giving it to will and benson who both distributed the ball very well indeed. 2 wingers ellis A and H looked good and in wainwright at right back we have our version of maicon down the right side!

Even game and could have gone either way certainly number of players who would like to see in the 1st team in coming years.
