After another busy week of voting, the results are in for the Tranmere right-midfielder of the decade and in one of the closer votes we’ve had in the series so far, it is Iain Hume who joins the other players who have so far made the team......

After a week of your votes, it has been decided that Iain Hume is the best right-midfielder of the decade in our Team of the Decade (2000’s) series, becoming the seventh player to make the team.

As you can see from the poll results below, Hume was a much closer winner than in some of our previous polls as he got 55% of the overall vote ahead of Andy Parkinson ...

After being born in Edinburgh but moving to Canada as a child, Hume eventually joined the youth ranks at Rovers and made his first team debut late on in the 1999/2000 season after Rovers had reached the League Cup Final at Wembley.

However, despite his debut in 2000, Hume’s progression as a first team regular was slow, only making 11 appearances the following season in what turned out to be a relegation season for Rovers and just 16 appearances the season after under Dave Watson.

It was only upon the appointment of Ray Mathias as Manager that Hume became a first team regular making 39 appearances in 2002/03 scoring six times in the process.  The following season, a massive 52 appearances registered 14 goals and Hume quickly became a cult figure with Rovers fans.

In 2004/05, Tranmere of course missed out on the League One play-off final as they lost on penalties to Hartlepool after a draw over two legs and after Hume had netted a career best 16 times that season, the Hartlepool game proved to be his last in a Rovers shirt as a £500,000 move to Leicester City followed in the summer.

A Rovers career then of 118 starts and 37 goals was almost directly matched in three years at Leicester where he made 111 appearances and scored 34 times before a £1.2million move to Barnsley from where he is currently on loan at Preston North End.

So far then the Team of the Decade for the 2000’s looks like this......

Who will join Achterberg, Roberts, Taylor, Goodison, Hill, Koumas and Hume next on the Team of the Decade (2000’s)?  In the next week we will be voting for the best right midfielder contenders and at the end of the week the winner will be revealed and placed in the Dream Team.

Interesting, so far certainly, how many players are ones who were at some point attached to our academy!
