After the abandonment of yesterday's home game against Notts County with Rovers 1-0 down at the time, the management team of both Clubs agreed that it was the right decision to abandon the game just seven minutes into the second half...............
After Rovers' home game against Notts County was abandoned yesterday after just seven minutes of the second half due to a waterlogged pitch, both Rovers Boss Les Parry and Magpies' assistant manager Alex Rae admitted that referee Peter Quinn was left with no choice but to make that decision.
County were 1-0 up when the game was abandoned thanks to a superb long range strike from Alan Gow in the first half but as the rain continued to pour throughout the half-time break, the pitch gave up absorbing water and the game lasted just seven minutes after the re-start.
Rovers Manager Les Parry said of the abandonment....
"I think even in the first half it was only just about playable. Overnight and this morning the pitch had absorbed as much as it could and anything more was going to sit on top, and that's what we saw."
"I don't think the referee should have come over to us, that's the referee's decision. Obviously I'm going to say no and obviously Paul (Ince) is going to say yes. I said I'd rather him not ask me because it's his decision"
"He said we'll try it for five minutes and if it gets any worse he'd abandon it. We tried it and then the next time a player ran with the ball he left it behind him, yet he still left it for a couple of minutes. The way the second half was going I don't think anybody was going to score because you couldn't pass it and you couldn't move with it."
"After the referee went away I said to Paul that I didn't want to help him make a decision but I said it isn't playable. He said 'I know', and his players coming off said the same thing."
"We were 1-0 down to a great strike. It was always going to be a great strike like that that settled the game. We said to the lads before the game that it was going to be a mistake, a back pass that held up or something special, and it was a great strike."
"I said to Paul when the game was going on that I'd love us to equalise just so it was a draw when it was abandoned and there would be no hard feelings."
Speaking of Groundsman Andy Quayle and his team's efforts to get the game on in the first place, Parry added....
"They've worked hard this morning. If they hadn't have put that work into it we wouldn't have even started. They were in first thing on the pitch and were on it for seven hours. So it's full marks to them that it started."
"Once it's started all you can hope is that the rain goes off a bit and that we can get it finished, but it just didn't stop."
County assistant Manager Alex Rae agreed that the pitch was ultimately unplayable but was obviously disappointed as he was confident his side would have gone on to win the game. He told Magpie Player...
"We're obviously disappointed but the pitch was absolutely soaking and it was the right decision, there's no doubt about it,"
"It was such a battling performance and I think the back four and midfield four put in a good shift, limiting their chances."
"From that point of view, we're pleased but we're disappointed that we're going to have to go again and it adds another fixture that we didn't really want."
Meanwhile, goalscorer Alan Gow rued the abandonment of the game and the fact that one of the best goals of his career will not stand. He told Magpie Player...
"I've scored a lot of important goals during my career but that was one of the best strikes I've had. I've come in and started straight away at Southampton and probably should have scored against Carlisle. It was great to go to Tranmere and get a goal but unfortunately we won't get anything for it. If I get a chance, I feel I'll score, that's part and parcel of my game."
Immediately after the abandonment, Tranmere released details of admission for the re-arranged game by announcing that no refunds will be available for the match that was abandoned but that admission to the re-arranged game will be free of charge to all supporters.
No date has yet been released for the re-arranged game but Total Tranmere believe that the earliest Tuesday available to both sides is 12th April with only one or two other Tuesday's after that on which the game could possibly be played.

Still if Tranmere had been able to carry on until the end and lost 1-0, it would no doubt have been a moan about Les day again from a certain percentage, rather than people saying Robbo cost us at least a point, or maybe 3 if the penalty had shifted some impetus Tranmere's way.
Still we will never know if Tranmere could have gotten 1 or even 2 goals and gottne point or 3 with about 40 minutes left.
I don't think there's been a decision on when the game is supposed to be replayed.
