we now have darville,cathalina,broomes,goodison,grandison,wood,cresswell,bakayoko and mc,crystal,plus ash taylor all defenders,with the loansmantom,aliyu wooton(defender) we must have our biggest squad for years.surely we must offload some-morrow,mcgurk,mahon,akins,darville,wood,even if only on loan to lower the wage bill

I'll be glad to see the back of Darville, he's been really poor from what i've seen. Its the issue of quantity over quality, id rather have 1 decent right back then 3 average players in that position, darville, Cathalina,Max (max is better breaking up the play in centre mid in my opinion).

I wouldn't want to offload Mahon or Mcgurk though. Mcgurk looks a decent player with a very good first touch, we've got no one creating in our team, so id even be tempted to play him centre mid to try and unlock opposition defences. Mahon has got a lot to prove, but deserves a chance to show us the player we expected when we signed him.

Id agree with offloading Darville,Akins, Wood and Morrow though Pete, but feel Mahon and Mcurk may be able to give us that creative spark that we've been lacking in recent weeks.

good points coop,but surely we,d be better paying andy robinson,ishmail miller,and maybe alladiere?10 grand a week net,than waste it on wood,morrow akins,blanchard,cathalina,grandison,loan mahon out to get match fit and with that wages saved sign the 3 players mentioned(maybe 2 on a seasons loan)giving us more chance of staying up

suppose the problem is we don't don't know how much their on at tranmere, they may be on next to nothing, as players like Morrow had something to prove coming to english football.

I'd be prepared to keep Morrow, because I think

A: He needs time to prove his worth, being the only cash transfer this season. At least I'm 95% certain he is.

B: He needs a run in the team, because what with the odd start or bench appearance, he's too bitty and if he had 5-6 straight full games and got 2-3 goals / assists, he'd prove something.

Plus he's 24, so he's too old now to be released for half the remaining money, so there's nothing to gain by getting rid of him early.

Personally I'd bin Wood now. He's on a one year deal, Tranmere could pay half of his remaining money because he's under 23 and much as though I think he has potential, he's not shown enough to be worth an extension come May / June.

Cathalina, I think has been better than some had anticipated and might be worth an extension.

Akins should go, because waiting for the perfect tactical match setup to be used, so he can possibly prove his worth, isn't worth it. If he was mostly on the wide of a 4-3-3, or used on the wing of a 4-4-2, for the good of the rest of the team, so be it, but if he could only score a few, when he was the lone striker, with someone like Showunmi dropping 10 yards off, then that's almost never going to be something Les would do, because Tranmere using players like Akins and Showunmi in the way Chelsea used to play Zola and Vialli, isn't necessarily the right way to play.

Much as though I don't dislike Akins, I feel he's not got anything to offer.

McGurk I agree with and Mahon. Mahon should be allowed the chance to prove himself, as it's not fair to write the guy off before even kicking a ball in anger or in any other way.

Darville, I've liked in parts, but feel he's not worth having back, if Leeds canned him in the next 6 months.

Neilsen has played hardly any games with a big gap between the two and let's not forget, Gulacsi fluffed against Charlton and cost Tranmere 3 points, but how many would grouch if he was to come back on loan or permanently?

So I'd not necessarily hope Neilsen never came back, but I'd not beg for his services either. He's unfortunately never had the chance to really show what he can do, in a 4,5,6 game spell, but time can't be spent trying to get him back, for him to prove some sort of point, that might possibly not be able to be made.

Out of the imported under 21's, I'd be happy to stay permanently, my feelings would be towards McGurk, Gulacsi and Wotton and if the latter two became available on a free come January or June, I'd say yes, (finances permitting of course), but the rest of them since the start of the season including Brown, have shown not enough potential to be worth signing on free transfers or return loans, though at present Lateef is someone I can't make my mind up on, so maybe he'd be a 4th choice for me, if pushed.

P.S. I like the comments about Robbo, Aliadiare and Miller. If Tranmere got rid of Wood, the saved money might be enough to pay Miller or Robbo for a 3 week deal, so the way things have turned out weather wise, that's about 6 games from Miller or Robbo

Not a signing that sets the blood tingling.For a 26 year old his pedigree does not suggest that he will amount to much. A very young player from ireland is one thing but if this guy had any real quality he would have been spotted already.

And yes,I know that some will argue that a signing cannot be judged until they play but the reality is that some signings excite and others just look like stockpiling more dross and this is in the latter group.

I would rather see a small high quality squad supplemented by our own youngsters and a few loan players

There is no chance of us signing another striker unless we were to get rid of at least 1 of our current strikers which i suppose is possible with the rumours about dale & itm.

a keeper & a midfielder is what we are after.

I'll agree about the McChrytsal signing, he is not one to excite, but I think his main purpose is to bolster up, incase of injuries.

When you think about Goodison, Broomes and Taylor, I'd expect them to start at CB ahead of him and potentially Blanchard and Bakayogo as well.

Matt i would agree he will be behind goodison broomes & taylor to play centre half but he wont be behind blanchard or bakayogo or it would be pointless signing him.

I see your point, but when you think about Les having to get players like Wotton or Grandison and using some of his loan allocation, that's a good reason to have him, so any future loans can be concentrated on other areas of the pitch.

Though given he is a certified centre back, as opposed to the others two that are somewhat adaptable, I can see your point entirely.

Broomes can f**k off after his disgrace of a tackle yesterday!

I presume that's just a slight over reaction, in the same vein as Subs reaction to the Labadie sending off, because Tranmere can't afford to have a player of Broomes's standard and experience not playing.

Though I concur that the challenge was not acceptable.

Seeing he`s a centre back Les will mostly play him any were else on the pitch bar centre back in any formation that has nothing to do with attackingthe opposition like yesterday against Rochdale who have not won for seven games
and yet again we are the fall guys again our opponents
now must look at the fixtures and think that`s three points
in the bag and on a bad day at least one.
Gone have the day`s of fortress Prenton Park I know the budget got a lot to do with it but sometimes I think Les has lost the plot if he ever had it perhaps I am knocking the guy we all know what he did last season after those two clowns but things need to look up starting in about an hour

Les is just trying to do what he thinks is right and sometimes it's not always right, sometiems it is and sometiems players must look at thier own performances, becasue you can't blame the thikngs Broomes and Labadie have don in the past 8 weeks on Les, but their respective sendings off and subsequant suspensions have and could make a key difference to Tranmere performances.

Though some managers even in a tight spot financially will have to take gambles, even if the gambles are magnified more when the need to be spot on with player recruitment and deployment is greater, like using Wooton at right back or paying a bit of moola for Morrow, because it's okay if you're a big club that buys an £8,000,0000 mediocre player, if 4-5 of the remaining players you sign are good and whilst signing a player that might cost £1,000 a week, that's not quite good enough, isn't as bad as someone like Huddersfield signing a £5,000 a week player that's not quite good enough, it's still something that might look worse to some, because they see someone with a small budget, who should be making every penny of transfers, bonuses and wages worth the time that the player(s), spend at the club.

I personally would relish parts of a managers job, but I think there's plenty of things that might be offputting or things you wouldn't like to have ot do and unless you have done it, I don't suppose people like us can truly know the height of expecation or pressure, that exists on Les's shoulders or any other managers shoulders.

Hopefully the future will work out for Tranmere, as I believe the current squad with 2-3 more additions is capable of a few more league places and potentially 3 straight league wins.
