After Tranmere fell to a 2-1 home defeat on Saturday against Leyton Orient, somewhat undeservedly in the end, Rovers Manager Les Parry rued the missed opportunities for his side but insisted there were postives from the game....

Rovers Manager Les Parry was left to regret a number of missed opportunities for his side as Tranmere slipped, somewhat unluckily in the end, to yet another home defeat this time against a poor Leyton Orient side at Prenton Park and also confirmed that two of his strikers picked up injuries in the game.

After the game Parry said.....

"We thought we were unfortunate to be 2-0 down at half time. We had two one on ones and a couple of other chances from set plays. At half time we felt the game was there not to draw but to win. We didn't take our chances, that's the bottom line."

"Their keeper was inspired today, some of the saves he made today were absolutely magnificent. But that's what he's there for, it's not as if they had any advantage over us by having an extra man. We gave him the opportunity to make saves when perhaps we should have done. Goody has hit the bar and we've had a couple of decent appeals for penalties. At the end of the day we've been beaten 2-1 but we can take tons of positives from the game."

"There's nothing you can do about their first goal.  He's put it right in the stamp, it's a good goal and a good finish. You can't point the finger at anyone.  For the second one Gunnar made the mistake and suddenly we've got a mountain to climb but I still thought we could win."

"We've picked up a couple more injuries that we could have done without. Ian (Thomas-Moore) has tweaked his calf and Enoch has tweaked his knee.  Hopefully it's going to settle down but if we hadn't made three substitutions we would have taken Enoch off."

Positives we got b****Y beat again as the boat sinks to league two at least we had the positive that it sank level.

Haha! I know the situation isn't funny at all Belmont but the way you put that really made me laugh.

Les does have to open eyes to a few things though for sure!

Is it not possible that defeat could be attributed to not having trained on grass for nearly three weeks, let alone played a game! Orient have played twice in that time so would have been much sharper and the new lads might have settled better.

It's clear that second half, once we switched things round, we were the much better. Elford-Alliyu seemed to inject a bit of pace and bite down the flank and 4-4-2 was much more effective. But we obviously still lacked that sharpness in front of goal and that, along with a shocking error from Nielsen, is what has cost us.

Hopefully Les will go with 4-4-2 on Tuesday and with 90 minutes and some training behind us, hopefully we'll be better right from the off.

Matt it wasnt down to the fact we hadnt played for two and half weeks but more the fact that when he had posession in the 1st half we launched it nowhere & couldnt play a simple pass 10 yards. Its an easy excuse to say we hadnt played for a while.

Agreed Mart and that showed in the second half when we started getting the ball down on the deck instead (and went 4-4-2) - it was so much of an improvement.

Hi folks, Orientfan here. I wasn't at the match but had to be content listening to the on-line commentary. I would add that Orient were without both first-choice centre backs (Chorley and Forbes) and the best two midfieders (Cox and Chambers) so it isn't surprising the team were a bit on the shaky side. The squad is so thin that we are forced to put junoirs on the bench in order to make up the numbers. I would suggest that losing at home to Orient in this case would point to a deeper problem than just going 4-4-2 would fix.

Ribareic if you was at the game you would have seen that once we changed to 4-4-2 we was all over you. The only reason why you won cause your keeper had a great game and the ref was a joke. Once we played football in the second half it was much better from Tranmere. But it's no good going into a game then once we are getting beat change the way we play. The damage was already done in the first half. We need to stop kicking the long every time we have the ball it's killing us..............................

Les is a good man with some good ideas, like playing Jennings on the wing agaisnt Plymouth, or Blanchard as cover at right back for games like Charlton, or making good signings like Enoch, Gulacsi, Blanchard, etc, but sometimes he will miss one or two obvious things like going 4-4-2 more often.

He claimed last season it let teams have one or two more chances against Tranmere, yet when he used it against Charlton, Yeovil and Oldham, he got 4 points from 9 with a goal difference of 0. Considering that squad didn't have players like Enoch, Jennings and Blanchard in it, not a bad return from 3 games, which included a draw away at a top 6 team.

He needs to have a little more belief in his own managerial ability. Yes the squad isn't loaded with £2,000-£3,000+ a week players, but if he was willing to give a little more time and attention to detail, he could avoid a few games where the team is luke warm first half, or sometimes letting in a dozy goal.

It's all a question of how long it takes him to get one or two realities about his ability and the teams ability straightened out. Then he could have a team of current playeras, that is capable of at least 3 back to back league wins 2-3 times a season.

to be far dont blame les the players went out htere and were unlucky the amount of near chances they had we could won the game by 5 one defeat doesnt make u relegation team yea were not in the right postion in the league and results make the diffrence but we do have the ability and we have shown that wen were on form we can do well 4 goal v mk and 4 v walsaw so that form will come back we could have done that yesterday

its not just saturdays game jade we were truly awful against hartlepool as well.

I think we will just about stay in the division but it will be a close call and probably go down to the wire again.

firstly 'tons of positives' makes no rational sense. i think i can decipher that lesley was trying to say that there were many aspects of the performance that were encouraging.
he must be refering to:
1. the players tendon stretching exercises were excellent
2. that we scored a goal
3. that Gunnar Neilsen is not Ronnie Moore
4. that nobody died
Yes Les, I bet your back hurt from carrying all those positives home after the match.

apparently lesley said he could take tons of positives from tonights game:
1. that it didn't snow
2. that he didn't have to travel too far as the game was at home
3. that some supporters give him a 9/10
4. that he masterminded the signing of tranmere legend gunnar neilsen who will bring a smile to supporters faces on cold november nights for years to come
