For those fans who can't make some of the Rovers games this season, particularly the high number of costly and time consuming southern away games, we at Total Tranmere will be providing a Match Discussion Thread on the Site for every Rovers game.

The thread will allow you to discuss everything from the pre-match build up and starting line-up to the game it as it progresses and the post-match analysis.

Where possible, Total Tranmere staff will post up the starting line-up and substitutes on the thread as soon as it is made known at the game.

Stadium - Bristol Rovers

Tranmere of course travel to Bristol Rovers in N Power League One on Tuesday evening, so if you're not going to the game why not join in the banter right here while the game is going on.

Maybe if you have a friend or family member texting you from the game you can post their views here for others to see as the game progresses.

You could also use this thread to discuss other interesting scores throughout the league as well as discussing this game afterwards if you have been along to the game.

What you discuss below is up to you but hopefully it can all be focused on one thread to make it easier for everyone to use.

Admin staff will try and add the team and updates on the game onthis thread where possible but these details are updated also on our Twitter Page throughout the game so if you're not following us already why not do so at www.twitter.com/totaltranmere.

Now it might be alot to ask but let`s see if we can do back to back wins even if it`s a dogs of war(Sm118) fight on Saturday might not be pretty but two on the trot would be good and then regroup and take it from there.

I dont think people will change their minds on les with 1 good result the same as people wont change their mind on him with 1 bad result.

I just hope we have more good results than bad.

It's not about changing your mind on Les though.

Personally I don't criticise him after every loss but don't come on praising him after every victory.

However some people are on here at 5.00 prompt to tear into the fella when we lose, slate him for X, Y and Z. When we get a victory like last night the same people don't exactly come on and praise him for doing X, Y and Z right.

If you're gonna criticise him for stuff then you should be prepared to praise when he does it right. I don't expect them to change their mind on Les though from one game!

For me if he manages to keep us up again i will be pleased anything else would be a bonus in light of the cuts to the playing budget again.

It will be interesting when figures are realeased for the past financial year to see how much some of the cutbacks have helped.

Didn't you think that taking off a forward in exchange for a defender broght about that tense last period ?
What we have we hold might have cost two points .

Most teams would have brought an extra defender on then particularly when the defence had already been weakened.

It was a good result and heartening but it is hope rather than a new dawn. We need to string together some results.Something that we could not do last year or this thus far. A win however has to be the starting point

Burrows

29/09/2010 22:04
After 9 games last year though we had 4 points.. if we finish the season with 5 points more than we did last year then thats an achievement.

Call it negative or whatever but with more and more budget cuts every year safety is the aim.

Great win. Though I have to admit after Saturdays result i was starting to lose optimism in Les, despite backing him from day 1.

Lets just hope the lads use this excellent away result as a springboard, get 3 points at home and build a solid run.

Les pulled off a superb result. I was absolutely buzzed about it.

I've alwyas felt most of the problems at Tranmere stem from Johnson and when you see that Les is working with only 1 new player, who has over 200 games experience, that some people criticised after 1 friendly and now no doubt hope stays as long as Goodison it makes you realise how much he works to ensure quality for price.

I'm just annoyed he didn't even get another £100,000 tis season. That's enough for 5 new players on an extra £300 a week more than currently is his limit, plus another £15,000-£20,000 for transfers.

I bet he could have gotten Owens and Macken for another £200-£300 a week on the deal and possibly Hulme, then maybe a couple of midfielders and a solid right back.

If Tranmere had then gotten 1 more goal against Oldham, Charlton and Dagenham, they'd be within a sniff of a playoff place right now and some people might be saying now, that Les was one of the greatest League 1 managers ever.

GOOD ON LES, for his signings, his ability to recognise and source players, most of whom have been good - great, or have the potential to get better like Wood.

Yes he sticks to his principles perhaps a little more doggedly than some might prefer, but it shows what is possible, with such limited resources, in a tough and financially challenging league.

Right now, until he gets a budget 3-4 times better than what he has and ends up bottom 6, he'll have my vote.

I have not based my criticism of Les around one result, so likewise he shouldn't be judged on the result the other night as good as it was.

I don't get satisfaction when we lose and think, oh I will come on here and slate him, it is my furustration coming out at some of the most abject performacnes I have ever seen.

I go to watch Tranmere because I am a fan, I have spent vast amounts of money following them home and away so when we get battered and look like little lost schoolboys, I get angry and think the manager should take some blame.

I still feel Les is not the man, and I still feel we will struggle badly this season. However I am delighted with the win the other night and would happily eat my words if it meant Tranmere started entertaining me and winning football matches.

You could throw any name at a question like that.
There would be plenty of good mangers with all the badges and experience needed or even a new name that has done his coaching and manager courses, there are plenty about.
The question you have to ask yourself is who would come here on a budget like ours with a board that has no ambition, no drive and the best that could be achieved is to languish in League 1 or at worst League 2.
Unfortunately, most clubs would require a manager to have all the football qualifications. Why doesn't ours?
Is the term manager the right term for Les?
I wouldn't think so! The modern term means that he handles things like contracts and bonuses and other monetary matters.
This is not Les's purview as the board solely deal with all the financial matters concerning playing and non playing staff.
You couldn't term him a head coach, could you?
Les doesn't do the day to day training, He has hired two coaches to do that for him and also a goalkeeping coach.
I would suggest. Team Supervisor.

What have coaching badges got to do with anything? Neil Warnock a succesfull manager at various clubs has got no coaching badges and there are several other managers who are the same.

Les Parry is the manager the fact that he doesnt coach the players is irrelevant as a lot of managers leave the coaching to others on the management team.

The reason Les takes blame, is because he's a "front of house" representative of the clubs. He's the known face, he's the one in the firing line.

He's also a guy who procured people like Showunmi, Blanchard, Mendy, Darville and put his faith in people like Collister, Cresswell and Jennings.

A man with a budget of less than £1,500 a week, which is not his fault, it's the boards fault for not trying hard enough to secure more finance, or if they do do anything, tell anyone outside of the club about it, then at least people won't think the board are just letting Tranmere fester.

I woner how much Les would have had to beg, just to have another couple of hundred to sign Macken or Owens. 1 striker for another £200-300 more, which he could have had if Mahon had taken a pay cut like Goodison.

Then if he had one of those two and had gotten even 2 more points, Tranmere would be 4 points of a playoff place, never in the bottom 4 and people would be praising him for what he'd achieved with his reduced budget.

Les maybe does occasionally need to examine his own ways of doing something, but as I've said before, if this was how Tranmere performed with a £4,000 a week budget, I'd give Les all guns blazing frankly, but the fact he's gotten wins that are more solid than Barnes did and hasn't conceded 5 goals in a game ever, with less money this season, makes a heck of a difference.

I would suggest that Neil Warnock has done the management courses required by the LMA. If he hasn't got his coaching badges, it is very unusual in the modern game.
However, I take the point that Les is 'Front of House' and is the boards face.
If that is the caes, and I fear it is. I'd rather he sits in the stand and studies the performance up there, as I think it is a waste of time, with him standing on the track with his arms folded or his hands in his pockets, looking down at his navel. He shouts at the Ref, the fourth official, I can't see what his role is on the touchline. He doesn't encourage, he is ineffective and wouldn't get as much critcism as he does now!
Let the coaches, coach from the dug-out!
Steve Coppel, Fat Sam and others manage from the stands, why doesn't Les?

I am sure somebody like Jim Gannon or John Coleman would come here bigmart.

Burrows

01/10/2010 12:58
Jim Gannon.. no thanks, really doesn't strike me as someone who I'd want to manage here... He's resigned from Dundalk, couldn't hack it at Motherwell, did nothing with a good Peterborough side (not saying he should of kept them up but there results were barely an upturn and they had a decent team..) He's only really been successful at Stockport and he was a legend there. I'm not saying he wouldn't match Les but whats the point in change just for the sake of it?

Can't see Coleman coming because A) we'd have to pay compo and cool smiley he has built his own side at Accrington and is doing so well, but guess what, it's took eleven years to make them that successful and he'd never be given that time here.

Coleman wouldn't come. He's had offers before now and snubbed them.

He's happy as a pig in muck at Accrington, so I'm sure that's where he'd stay.

Realistically part from the England job, (radical idea, but might work if Capello doesn't), I don't think he'd want to move.
