Striker Gornell Seals Stanley Move

Tranmere striker Terry Gornell has today completed a move to League Two side Accrington Stanley on a free transfer as Rovers reportedly look to bring in Sam Morrow as a straight replacement later today........
Tranmere striker Terry Gornell today completed his much anticipated move to League Two side Accrington Stanley on a free transfer after rumours in recent days that he would complete a return to the Crown Ground after a loan spell there during the 2008-09 season.
Gornell progressed thorugh the youth ranks at Tranmere and impressed at that level before making his first team debut and going on to make 46 appearances in total, scoring four times.
Never really given a chance by past Rovers Managers who preferred him to play in a wide role and never really given a fair chance by most Rovers fans as a result, Gornell went out on loan to Stanley during the 2008-09 and scored four times in ten appearances in his more natural position, proving his capability when played as an out and out striker.
Speaking of his move to Lancashire, Gornell told the Accrington Stanley Official Website.....
"It's been a quick couple of days and it's great to be back. I didn't need much persuasion to come back. I know the setup here, I
know John and Jimmy and a couple of the lads are still here from when I
was last here."
"John and Jimmy were the big reason for me coming here. I've played under them before and know what they're all about and it suits me down to the ground."
"The lads have started well. T hat was another reason why I signed. This is a team that's on the up. I watched the game the other night closely because I knew about the interest and I was really impressed with the way they played and kept going to the end. I thought they were more than a match for Newcastle."
"Their league form's good as well, unbeaten, and I think the lads can do something here."

discussion about our squad and his own personal development. After a lot
of consideration he decided he wanted to take the opportunity."

"With Enoch Showumni, Ian Thomas-Moore, Adam McGurk, Lucas Akins, Kayleden Brown, Jack Mackreth and Dale Jennings all in the squad there is a lot of competition for the attacking places in the team."
Meanwhile Rovers are reported to be close to completing the signing of striker Sam Morrow some time today so keep checking Total Tranmere for news on this.

On the official site now, shame it didnt work out for him, but 4 goals out of 48 games is a poor return for a forward!

I have been amongst Terry's harshest critics, I will admit. However, most of my critisicm was born out of frustration of the lad not fulfilling his potential.
We all know what a prospect he was when he joined Stanley on loan, and then he never really did live up to the billing!
I was backing him to right the ship and turn things around, and it is a shame that he has gone.
He is another who'se ability was considerably diminished by the 4-3-3, in my opinion. Played as a centre forward, the lad has undoubted ability. Abilitly that I think will get him 20+ goals in League Two this year.
Good luck to him, and lets get Hume or Robinson in with the money eh, Les?

Gornell will not score 20+ goals in league two this season id be surprised if he got into double figures.
I would guess we would get about £25000 for him which is going on signing sam morrow, we wont be signing hume or robbo unless itm leaves.

I cannot see why this is a good situation.Gornell had potential especially if played in the right position.Morrow is hardly prolific even at the level he is playing. He is a new face nothing more at this point in time for he has no convincing track reccord. I am sorry to see Gornell (and Curran go) for he was young enough to get better. i also suspect that he is better than the cluster of new forwrds recently signed
He wasn't that good and didn't fit into Les's sytem. We can't afford to have players on the books who aren't good enough.
Terry simply isn't good enough on the wing and he's behind quite a few others to play in the central role up top (where admittedly he MIGHT be good enough, but we can't afford to wait and see, especially when he would be about 4th choice to play in that role)

If it was a free move, that really bites, but it is the best thing for him, as he's been on loan there and it will be a good move to make.
Apart from anything else it will free up a bit of money that he would have been paid for wages, (bonus payments non-predictable however), so that might leverage the Moore deal, if they can give Moore something like 1/4-1/5 of Gornells wage as a sweetner, on top of his current wage, then save the remainder, to help pay one or two new guys like Morrow.

If ITM wants a pay rise he can get lost, he knows we can't afford higher wages.
I realise that, but not having Gornell does save some money.
If I were Les and all it would take, was an added £100-£200 a week, to wangle Moore's continued services, I'd be considering it as possibility, because obviously Gornell was on a lot more than £200 a week, so you wouldn't be using all the saved wage just for Moore.

Doubt Gornell was on that much more than £200 a week.. it was his first ever pro contract wasn't it? I'd guess he would of been on no more than £500.
I would think he was getting more than £200 a week. I'd expect most full-time conference clubs, with a £600 allowance for top players, could give young players £200 a week at least, certainly £800 a week clubs could.
That would be tragic if he'd gotten that off Tranmere really, considering he could have probably gotten more, if he'd signed for Chester F.C. at Evostick division 1 level.

Whats going on please, you seem to be missing the point here, we have let Terry go and are going to replace him with Sam Morrow, suggest you look at Sam Morrows track record, which puts him slightly behind Brown and Atkins, both signed from lower league teams, and failing to be proven goal scorers, they are not going to pull up trees at tranmere,

gornell wasnt a winger thats why he has let him go. Les is going to stick with 4 3 3 coz thats what saved us last year. If showumni gets injured brown or mcgurk is gonna play there. gornell at tranmere was a lost cause because he wouldnt get a game in the middle. I hope it doesnt bite us in the @#$%&, and he scores 15+ goals for AC. On the other hand this might be the time 4 McKreth to play his part. We all know how quick and skillful he is, well lets hope he can bring it to the side to help showumni.
Terry was pant's and was jogging around the pitch in the last game. He can not hack it in league one. Maybe do better at AS but not for Tranmere glad he has gone.................

les is getting younger lads with pace in so they can fit into his 4-3-3 system which anyone with eyes knows didn't suit Gornell. the thing is though winger come strikers are never really going to get you a quality goals return.. which is why the formation should be f'd off! but if he insists on playing it then the one central striker should be a well established finisher.. credit to enoche he's found the net a few times so far and fingers crossed it continues, but his record suggests it may not.
We aint utd, were gonna struggle for goals this season which is why it was suicidal to bring in kids to fill the defence. experience players i would have prefered, we let a couple of them go in the summer!!!

With the reduction in playing budget again we our left with little option but to sign youngsterswhich sadly will probably see us being relegated sooner rather than later. I know we have to stem the losses as we cant continue to lose so much money each year but think it will be at a cost of relegation this season.
All the talk of robbo or hume coming to us is fancyfull unless there clubs pay a massive percent of their wages.

In fairness, Hume was more likely to possibly come than Robinson, but if he was on anything like I think he was, that would have meant Tranmere's spending allowance being about another 4-5% of his wage than it was for Robinsons.
I do think though the possibility of Anthony Kay may be more realistic, as I think he would be earning about 50%-60% of what Hume is getting, so that would make what Tranmere could offer as a proportion, more realistic.

i'm not entirely sure about that Matt.. Hudds budget matches many of the championship i wreckon and BArnsely are not one of the divisions biggest. It would not surprise me at all to find that they both earn a similar amount. Either way as said above were wasting our breathe even talking about either signing really.
