Les Parry closes in on clinching striker to boost Rovers strikerforce.

Tranmere Rovers are reported to being close to sealing a deal to sign former Hibernian striker Sam Morrow this week.

The Derry City striker impressed Tranmere boss Les Parry in a pre-season tournament in Scotland, and is believed to be having a medical at Prenton Park this week as Tranmere look to bolster their striking options.

Hibernians Sam Morrow (white) challenges Gedi Butrimavicius during the Intertoto Cup second round fi

Morrow started his career with Ipswich, but failed to ever make an appearance for the club, and after making two appearances for Boston United on loan, he joined to Hibs for an undisclosed fee in 2004.

He played for the SPL club for three years, scoring three times in 40 appearances before moving on to Derry after spending time with Livingstone and Partick on loan.

Tranmere are believed to have agreed a fee with the Irish club for the signing of the player and are hoping to complete the transfer this week.

In other news, Total Tranmere also believes that former striker Iain Hume is close to securing a move back to the club on loan from Barnsley.

Just for the record Morrow is a Coleraine FC player and hasn't scored since pre-saeson friendlies in July....hope he's brought some new shooting boots to Rovers if this rumour is true.

Is this really all that we can get? I'd rather we just blood our youth players to give competition for places. At least they have potential....

Hared to imagine Tranmere 'agreeing a fee' with anyone given our finances. Another non-quite-good-enough striker who can't score goals is probably the last thing we need at the moment!

3 goals in 40 appearances he sounds proflic, rather than wasting money on more strikers, this article claims 2 more, why doesn't Les sign a right winger??????

We haven't had a creative midfielder since Micky Melon. We need one urgently. As for stikers I have to note that Enoch was better than most of those on the field on Saturday yet he lacks the pace and tenacity of Bas Savage. Bas tackled hard and put himself about. Would that our current crop of players did the same. Headless would at least add some urgency and direction.

Whilst I Respect Everybodys Views, If Sam Is Coming To PP, Instead Of Slaging Him Off Before He Has Even Arrived, As We Are Rovers Supporters, Lets Do What We Should And Support Those In The Rovers Jersey.

Reading on wiki it seemed like he was half decent up in scotland till he did his cruciet ligaments in. Qpr were going to sign him.

Went back to Ireland and scored about 10 in 40 games for Derry. Signed for coleraine this season. Still under contract for another 12 months.

Hopefully recovered from the injury and is on his way back up again!!!

According to what I've just read, he got 14 in 44, which does not include assists by the way and a 4 in 4 ratio for the NI Under 21's.

Include assists and you've got someone who could be quite interesting, especially as he's 6ft and 25, so he's got height and some age, plus just over 100 games and some international experience as quoted.

Tranmeres site said a few days agao that Parry had a few quid ot spend.

My guess is, it's some of the money leftover from the failed Owens deal, plus a ballpark percentage of what the Swansea game could make.

Hes on trial with us according to the post.

I cant see us getting much money wise out of tonights game i would think the crowd will be about 3000.

According to Wirral News, the Post and BBC, he is only on trial. Coleraine chairman is quoted as saying that he is on trial with us, but he has heard nothing regarding a bid.

I was wandering, can we just sign him off the trial, or do we have to agree a fee? I know it sounds a little stupid and naive, but the BBC website kind of suggests that we don't!

If hes under contract we will have to pay a fee for him, apparently he was suspended earlier this year for 3 months for betting on the outcome of games he was playing in.

There are always those on this site who think that any new signing is good. On paper I cannot see anything in this signing that gives the slightest reason for excitement. A dodgy medical record a none too distinguished pedigree before that.If we had been signing Mackern or someone of that ilk it would have felt like progress
If today we have lost Moore the the 3 signings look like more of the same concotion as other signings this summer so we have a bigger but poorer squad.

I hate to be gloomy but there is no logical grounds for wait and see optimism

LINK: "Sam So Sorry"

apologese for the link im on me phone, hopefully admin can sort it.
he missed 6 months banned for betting scandal. Typical Rovers target ;-) my irish friends tell me he's ok and that local papers over there said he signed for us last week. They also told me their other boy Mgurk is handy.

EDIT: Just fixing the link smiling smiley

I for one haven't said he's good but he does deserve a chance rather than being slagged off before he's even come here.

It is not slagging the player off but an appraisal of the quality of signings that we are making.I assume that Parry makes some judgement before signing aplayer and supporters inevitably do the same thing. In general we are signing players that no other club seem interested in.

Like Joss Labadie you mean Devon? I know for a fact that he had other offers on the table but chose to come to us for LESS money.

We've also been in for plenty of players that other clubs want, EG Jordan Owens, but that fact is that we can't afford to pay as much as many other clubs and as such we can't sign the best players available. We can only really sign the players that are best available to us and within our market.

From what I've seen so far, I'd say that Les has done a pretty decent job. McGurk will turn into a very classy little player once he's match fit, whilst Showunmi is showing signs of being a good player too.

Labadie we all know about and are all pleased to have signed, whilst hopefully Cathatlina will turn out to be a good right-back too.

If we can get Hume in, and Sam Morrow, and then get the likes of Broomes, Taylor and Mahon back fit, I think we'll have the makings of a very handy side.

I disagree Mart, I think, if Les is to stick with 433 (which in my opinion he should away and against the "big" teams of this division), then by replacing McLaren with Max Blanchard and putting him in front of the back four, I think we will defensively become a lot stronger and this would allow Labadie to get forward more.

WHen i look at our squad i just done see us scoring enough goals as there is not enough creativity in midfield. Weve so far scored 3 goals in 5 games and we havent really created many chances.

I dont think 4-3-3 gets the best out of our attacking players as i think enoch would be better with a partner alongside him and with the likes of fraughan wide on one flank though not too sure who would play the other flank.

cheers for the link admin winking smiley

im dying for the next game no matter how@#$%&we are.
Deluded maybe, but im putting it down to meeting 2 teams at the wrong time Oldham are blatently enjoying a hot streak at the mo as are bournemeouth. We've played Walsall who will be a definate relegation rival and beat them away, and this week end must result in a draw i feel. I really think we can win it though and i'm getting on 1-0 moore 9/1.

alot of new faces and inexperience.. i think it will improve with games, though i do feel we'll still be just about treading water again by the end
