Oh for a signing with some experience. The balance is too one sided and we are left with an impression of short term expediency and no long term plan to build and develop a squad. This approach could change the whole culture of supporting a club.At the lower levels it is identifying with a club through birth, accumulated experiences and identifying with players who form the backbone of a team. Take away the latter and football is reduced merely to the entertainment industry and if it is just that what reason is there for anyone to watch a team like Tranmere.

Once Moore goes there will only be Goodison that represents any real continuity and at his age he cannot have more than a season left.

All clubs at the lower end borrow players but it is a minority like Hereford that have a total dominance of one year contracts and loanees.

Firstly, Thomas-Moore aint going, he's had his transfer request rejected.

Secondly, are the likes of Broomes, Welsh, McLaren, Thomas-Moore, Showunmi, Goodison and Mahon not experienced enough players? Even Blanchard has played 100+ games, Cathalina probably more than that and Ash Taylor nearly 50. Honestly, it's not all doom and gloom!

The lad has obviously got ability, otherwise he would be at West Brom and wouldn't have been picked to play for Wales U21. Give him a chance!

can he play either side of showunmi ?

I feel he's too similar to Showunmi to be in the same team.

He too is big and has a lot of presence, so I doubt he'd play either side.

Saying that, he looks like he has a lot of pace so you never know?

I thought he was decent, but was always on the bench. Hope this new lad gets a chance.

The Tranmere website claims it's a month deal for Brown, which to me is not a very worthy type of signing, simply because unlike the situation last season, where people like Gulasci and Gordon signed, that was to cover injuries, so a month or so, was understandable in the circumstances.

Brown may do well, but if the deal is actually 1 month, what's the point? He's going to be competing for a place, that even if he earns it will be temporary.

One assumnption is Tranmere are going to do this, until they can get one or two more trialists tried and approved.

I'm hopeful he will get some goals, but then you have someone who gets some iind of form and leaves, causing a minor disruption to the team building process.

I hope the main site has gotten that month figure wrong and it is a season. I'm not disparaging Brown, but Tranmere should at least be trying to encourage long-term loans, because having loans piecemeal, is not good for team moral when someone who just starts to be popular and get some form leaves.

The club doesn't need a 3 striker system, comprising of 2 strikers and then a 3rd striking position, based on a rotating door loans policy, every 1-2 months, potentially effecting the pitch dynamic.

I can concur with some of the sentiment of Devonexile, but truth is, whilst Tranemre have experienced players like those quoted, (although one linked site here, places Blanchard at around 92 games played in France, not 100+), the problem again is the financial structure.

You can't loan out of consideration Championship and SPL, or second tier Eurpopean players, if all you can pay is 10-15% of their wages, when they're on £8,000+, or equivalent in Euros and when they're released, even if they might take a cut in wages, of around maybe 20-30%, that's more than Tranmere can afford, if a rejected £8,000 a week footballer, wants around £5,500-£6,500 a week.

The experience and age could be sought, but then you're potentially talking Conference players, with 6+ years under their belt and if they're still playing at that level 6 years into a career, even assuming 2-3 years at a lower level first, chances are they are not superstar potential, rising up the ranks licketty split and could be 90%+ consistent at Conference level, but only 50%-60% consistent at League 1 and then you may have paid approximately £200,000, for a player valued at around £120,000, that does not work out.

Otherwise League 2 players, that are valued at £200,000+ and cost 75%-100% more than that.

Tranmere are doing really well to maintain experience like Mahon, Moore, Goodison and Mclaren and sign experience like Showunmi, but until they have even enough to pay the kind of money, that equates to around 30% or more, of what Andy Robinson is paid at Leeds, they'd be looking for Championship, some European and SPL teams, to be charitable and loan players for a poultry or no contribution.

Showunmi proves what can be done in tyhis current Tranmere climate, but it will remain a constant struggle to procure such combined experience and quality, at the rate Tranmere can pay.

The fact Macken's £1,500 a week ask was supposedly too much, highlights the problem here.

What if its a month and theirs a clause that the club can make it full season when the months up if he performs..

Never heard of such a clause before, but these days anything is possible, given some people can ask for utility bills to be paid as a clause, I suppose anything that wasn't illegal could apply, including extension clauses for good performances.

Frankly though I don't care who you are, I think asking a club to pay your gas water or electric is a bit cheeky.

I think thats a common clause in a loan deal, but more often the outcome is a permanent transfer, as in clubs loan a player and agree a transfer fee if they feel he impresses enough during the loan.

However I see no reason why their couldn't be a clause, saying all three parties (TRFC, WBA and Brown) agree to extend the loan if TRFC are satisfied with his performances?

I agree, if such a stipulation could be added, that would be okay.

You say there's no point in a one month loan deal...I agree, it's an oddly short length, maybe it's all West Brom would agree to...but the point of it is for him to come in and win us games. He might score two winning goals...that's six points won, that's the point in the loan deal!

A one month loan is good business ethic.

I imagine we are paying some of his wages. If we agree to a season-long loan and he turns out to be rubbish, or doesn't get on with the team, then we are stuck. Terminating the loan would only damage a good relationship with West Brom. Let's face it, without Daniels and Ladibie last season, we would have gone down and without them signing Koumas all those years ago for 2.5 - 3.0million for a league 1 player, we would have never stayed in this division.

1 month doesn't damage a good relationship, it builds it; we can see if he fits in and has potential and if so I wouldn't see why WBA wouldn't let us have what seems to be their 7th choice striker on loan for the season.
