Tranmere have today completed the signing of defender Maxime Blanchard. The twenty three year old has been on trial with Rovers since the start of pre-season but finally signed a one year contract today.

The French defender spent the 2009-10 season with French side Moulin and is expected to be in Les Parry's 18 man squad for Saturday's season opener against Oldham Athletic.

Speaking to TranmerePlayer, Manager Les Parry said "I'd like to welcome Max to the Club.

"Max has done well during his trial here and he can play in a holding midfield role as well as in defence.

"He's a good addition to the squad and I've been very impressed with his attitude since he has been with us."

That Blanchard* has signed on a 1 year deal. I didnt see him during pre season but most people have rated him.

It'll be interesting to see who is gonna be Goodys partner, him or Wood!

* Not too sure of his spelling

Didn't manage to see him in pre-season, but sounds impressive. It is just a relief that we have finally made another signing, to try and fill out the squad.

It is a start.

I am hoping for one more signing, hopefully a striker, before the game tomorrow!

still a bit concerned by the lack of cover higher up the field

Fully agree.

I've no problem with the 4-3-3 formation but we only have 3 strikers (plus Dale Jennings) which really isn't enough. We need to sign 2 strikers IMO, even if they are just season loans.

We are paper thin up the top, and it is so worrying.

We have Shwounmi, Gornell (who is maddeningly inconsistent) and Thomas-Moore (who obviously, going by the transfer request, isn't interested anymore) as well as whatever bunch of kids shows up from the youth team every week.

It's not good enough on the last day of the off-season, no matter how bad our budget is!

Mackreth as a first year pro should be on the bench ahead of jennings, Jennings is a headless chicken, he has been ok in the youth but he cant run through division one players at least Mackreth has the speed to get past them and the vision and inteligence to pass the ball.

So you're saying MacKreth has speed to run past players, but then critisise Jennings for being a "headless chicken"? If anything, Dale is faster than Jack, and that's saying something! His end product is inconsistent at the moment but he's only 17 so what do you expect? He'll be the next big money maker for this club, no doubt.
