PMProfile

Experienced central midfielder is in his second spell at Prenton Park after signing a two-year deal with the club in July 2009.

Wycombe born McLaren made his name for Luton Town in the 1990s, playing for the club for seven years between 1994 and 2001, making 201 appearances and scoring six goals for the Kenilworth Road side.

In 2001 McLaren joined Sheffield Wednesday, where he had a three year spell before joining Rotherham in 2004, becoming a regular in the side over the next two years as he played 76 games in his two season stint at Millmoor.

After his contract expired with Rotherham, McLaren signed for Tranmere Rovers for the first year, signing a two-year deal with the club and becoming an important player during his second year at Prenton Park, finishing near the top of the assists table for League One.

In 2008, McLaren left Tranmere for Bradford before returning to Prenton Park a year later when John Barnes and Jason McAteer came to the club.

A tidy midfield player, McLaren is often critisised for his lack of effort, but often he can be found making the little passes and tackles in midfield that really count, whilst he will often try to play that killer pass from the heart of the Rovers midfield.

The centre-midfielder took the majority of Tranmere's set pieces during the 2009/10 campaign, and could do so again this year.
