Tranmere have today extend the loan stay of striker Marvin Sordell for a further month
Tranmere Rovers have today extended the loan stay of striker Marvin Sordell by a further month, following a successful four weeks at Prenton Park.
The 19-year old signed for Les Parry's side a month ago from Championship side Watford on an inital one month stay, with Tranmere having the option to extend Sordell's stay at Prenton Park for a further two months.
Since joining Tranmere, Sordell has played five times and scored once, a crucial strike in a 2-1 win over Leyton Orient, a result that saw Rovers move out of the bottom four for the first time since August.
The striker, who has scored once in four appearances for Watford, initially signed for Rovers as cover for Bas Savage, but over the past four weeks he has made the position his own, replacing the out of sorts Terry Gornell in the starting line up.
Tranmere manager Les Parry told the club's official site “Marvin has done well for us so far and I’m pleased to keep him here for another month. He has improved game by game and hopefully his goal against Leyton Orient will be the first of many he will score for us.
“I’d like to thank Watford manager Malky Mackay for allowing Marvin to stay with us.”
When Sordell's current one month stay expires, Rovers will be able to extend his loan deal by one month for a final time.
What a ridiculous thing to say. Yes, Terry's missed some chances this season, but he's a youngster who's coming through the ranks, putting 110% in every time and is getting better and better.
There's just no need to posts like that. Give the lad some confidence, because that's all he need at the moment and he'll start banging them in.
agree matt gornell and curran are about the same ages and gornell has alot more petentiol just because curran score within 3min on debut and got hatrick last game that season dont mean he brilliant gornell is young need time giv him two more season and he be as good as steve dvis to years ago
can't be easy being pushed out the team by a loan player and then keeping them on while we await Bas return.. he must feel like he's going nowhere fast.
however he's had chances to net and has brought alot of this negativity to his own door. The kids need to be encouraged tho you've seen what has happened to the Captain of England the model centre half john Terry of late... When your down and your heads not on the game.. you struggle big time. He prob wasn't really ready to be starting week in week out and is still growing. He's been put in this position by the lack of depth in the squad. I also see where your coming from with Mclaren but we'd prob have had some 16 yr old kid filling in if it weren't for him as our depth is shocking.
I think he's done well. TBF to him, he came here with the weight of saving us so to speak on his shoulers. People's expectation of Les's loan signing were huge. OK he hasn't scored 3/4 goals BUT he has shown intelligence with his runs and his finishing last week weren't too bad!
personally id play either mahon or barnett ahead of mclaren anytime at least till ash returns.
I fail to see where gornell is improving he hardly wins any headers when trying to lead the line hes not got much pace doesnt hold the ball up that well and most importanlty for a striker cannot score. Yes he is only young and may improve but i cant see him being better than a league 2 player, i hope to be proved wrong but cant see it.
I will support him on the pitch as all our players but i really dont see him being that good,
Brian Littles biggest mistake in my eyes was selling Chris Dagnall and for pennies!!
lets give Gornell a little longer before we do something we may regret.
Sordells first 2 shots went out for a throw in before he netted the other week..
I do not think that he is any better than Gornell and given his inexperience it is odd that we are giving him experience at the expense of our own youngster. I do agree about Mclaren not justifying a place but the obvious alternative was the inexperienced Fraughan.Personally I would have preferred us to have bought a midfielder in on loan than a rookie forward
fully agree mate!
So many people crying out for Mahon to be starting.. while he should be given ago i dont think at any point he's done anything to justify a start ahead of Mclaren.
Again, Mahon was someone Les spoke about tonight at the Les Aid thing and said that if he's not performing any better than someone in the first team then why change things and bring him in?
spot on...
i hope he has a better run next time he gets his chance i really do but in my eyes he's done nothing more than Mclaren.. atleast Mclaren has stayed fit for us each week
