After another busy week at Prenton Park for Les Parry and his team, Total Tranmere take a look back at the past week in this new feature, Weekly Review
It has been an interesting past week at Prenton Park, a week very much of mixed emotions, with frustration and disappointment mixed in with delight and nostalgic memories.
The week started on a high for Rovers fans, as for the first time since August, they could look at the League One table in the Sunday papers without wincing at the sight of their club lying deep inside the League One relegation zone.
A 2-1 for Les Parry's men lifted the Prenton Park outfit out of the bottom four and up to seventeenth place in the League One table, but the happiness was short lived, as on Tuesday Rovers lost 2-0 to Huddersfield Town at Prenton Park.
In a game that many would argue Tranmere deserved a point, Lee Novak scored both goals at crucial times for the Terriers, when after nine minutes he just managed to poke the ball over Luke Daniels' goal line, before on 48 minutes he broke clear of the Tranmere offside trap before slotting past the hapless Daniels to seal the game for Lee Clark's high flying side.
Results elsewhere however didn't go too badly for Rovers as they avoided slipping back into the drop zone, remaining instead in 19th place, two positions above the division's trap door.
Tranmere carried some more bad news out of the game however, with versatile midfielder Gareth Edds sent to hospital during the second half of the match with concussion following a head injury picked up trying to prevent the first goal.
The former Nottingham Forest player is likely to miss the next couple of days training but should be available for Rovers' match against Southampton on Saturday.
Thursday night saw Tranmere's Wembley 10th Anniversary celebratory evening at Prenton Park, where a packed Aldo's was entertained by such Rovers heros as David Kelly, Gareth Roberts, Eric Nixon and John Achterberg.
The evening went down a treat, with other ex-players on show including Alan Morgan, Dave Challinor, Alan Mahon, Gary Jones and current coach Wayne Allison, as well as boss Les Parry.
In a thoroughly impressive evening, the heroes who were part of Tranmere's League Cup final team at Wembley on February 27th 2000 spoke of their memories of that great day, as well as the events leading up to the final and of course such memorable wins as the 5-1 thrashing of Coventry City and the 3-0 drubbing of Bolton Wanderers.
It was back to the football on Saturday though when Tranmere were due to take on Brentford at Griffin Park in Coca-Cola League One.
Heavy rain in the week leading up to Saturday's fixture had put the match in doubt, but a pitch inspection deemed the surface playable on the morning of the game.
Further rain though left the pitch water-logged and therefore unplayable, with the match finally postponed at 12.15pm on the day of the game, with most Rovers fans well on their way to London, if not already there.
The game has yet to be re-arranged.
Despite not playing though, Tranmere remained outside the League One relegation zone again thanks to results going their way, with the likes of Southend, Hartlepool and Oldham all losing over the weekend.
Rovers remain in nineteenth place, two places and one point above Oldham who are currently in 21st position.
Elsewhere, on the injury front Bas Savage will play another reserve game this week when Rovers' second string take on Preston North End at Deepdale on Wendesday (2pm kick off).
Other Rovers first teamers likely to be in action include Chris McCready, Terry Gornell, Aaron Cresswell and Alan Mahon, though this game is likely to come just too early for Ashton Taylor, who has been out for three weeks with a hamstring injury.
