Oldham Athletic v Tranmere Rovers Match Discussion Thread
By Total Tranmere
January 20 2010
Throughout the season we provide you with a platform to discuss each and every Rovers match whether it be the build-up to kick-off or post match analysis so here we bring you the Match Discussion Thread for Wednesday evening's re-arranged Coca-Cola League One match away at Oldham Athletic in what is a vital six-pointer....
Wednesday 20th January - Coca Cola League One
Oldham A v Tranmere R
Kick-Off 7.45pm at Boundary Park
For those fans who can't make some of the Rovers games this season, particularly the high number of costly and time consuming southern away games, we at Total Tranmere will be providing a Match Discussion Thread on the Site for every Rovers game.
The thread will allow you to discuss everything from the pre-match build up and starting line-up to the game it as it progresses and the post-match anaylsis.
Where possible, Total Tranmere staff will post up the starting line-up and substitutes on the thread as soon as it is made known at the game.
Tranmere of course travel to Oldham Athletic tonight in Coca-Cola League One to play an all-important match which was originally scheduled for Boxing day but was postponed due to heavy snow, so if you're not going to the game why not join in the banter right here while the game is going on.
Maybe if you have a friend or family member texting you from the game you can post their views here for others to see as the game progresses.
You could also use this thread to discuss other interesting scores throughout the league as well as discussing this game afterwards if you have been along to the game.
What you discuss below is up to you but hopefully it can all be focused on one thread to make it easier for everyone to use.
Three points there for the taking tonight we just must get at them and they will crack ! thought a great chance for Fraughny tonight but he's not made the bench behind Mahon and Barnett ! NO
I've said it several times before and will say it again....
..we need one if not two strikers who are capable of scoring or this mess just carries on and on.
I'm delighted with a point and disgusted by the boos that met the final whistle after a decent point although no-one can really argue that it was a poor game all the way through between two sides that look likely to be down there till the very end.
Finishing was woeful and we never really tested their keeper. Terry missed another great chance whilst Curran was awful up front. Midfield was wasteful, so many missplaced passes but defensively we were impressive.
Thought Les could have made a sub to change things up. Would have been nice to see Mahon and Shuker on at some point, but he didn't want to take the gamble.
Will take a point for sure though. Can't complain about a clean sheet on the road
got agree with sub until we start to score goals or can get someone in who can then we will be stuck in this mess, a fiarly predicatble result and a point is welcome but we really need to start scoring
With regard to Mahon as a possible sub yesterday I expect having been out injured, not having trained properly like the rest of the first team lately and having not had a Reserve Game to get match fitness that he was probably on the bench as a last resort yesterday?
That begs the question as to why Fraughan wasn't included?
Same old story going forward last night, no ideas and toothless. Gornell never really shoots with any conviction and his finishing is poor, Curran worked hard but his quality on the ball wasn't there, and Moore didnt do anything. Also felt we carried Welsh, who had no impact.
Our team just seems to be full of workers, especially in midfield. Players like Edds will give 100% but lack any quality going forward. Goals are going to be a major issue for us to stay up, we badly need an attack minded mifielder and a striker.
we definately needed a change last night Les really doesn't like changing things does he! the lads on the field wouldn't have scored if we'd played for 3 hrs we definately needed the change and if ur correct sub then surely he shouldn't have been named on the bench. Iv noticed it on more than just last night though that subs are rarely used or given far too minimal time to influence game under les.
i personally think with all our blocks and clearances we were very lucky to get the draw.. the performance wasn't good enough and we never won one second ball all night, Oldham won every header an looked hungrier.. performance now being irrelevant the result was decent. Had we been the home team id be in tears now so surely Oldham will feel far worse off than us today. Alot rides on Yoevil now though. point is an excellent point if we can win on tues.
can i just add that even though i didn't rate our performance last night... that does not include the defence. The defence were fantastic and dived in front of everything!!!
Zoom was immense getting forward 1st half and Logan 2nd half too. well in to the back 4 (5) who only a few months ago were the worst in the country. hopefully we can push Taylor up the pitch an lose mclaren now we have Mcready added to the gang.
I know we keep going on about it, but Daniels looks terrified every time he has to kick the ball. Hope he keeps working hard at in in training.
