Tranmere Rovers v Aldershot Match Discussion Thread
By Total Tranmere
November 28 2009
Throughout the season we will provide you with a platform to discuss each and every Rovers match whether it be the build-up to kick-off or post match analysis so here we bring you the Match Discussion Thread for Saturday afternoon's home FA Cup second round game against Aldershot of League Two......
Tranmere v Aldershot
Kick-Off 3.00pm at Prenton Park
For those fans who can't make some of the Rovers games this season, particularly the high number of costly and time consuming southern away games, we at Total Tranmere will be providing a Match Discussion Thread on the Site for every Rovers game.
The thread will allow you to discuss everything from the pre-match build up and starting line-up to the game it as it progresses and the post-match anaylsis.
Where possible, Total Tranmere staff will post up the starting line-up and substitutes on the thread as soon as it is made known at the game.
Tranmere of course host Aldershot on Saturday afternoon in the second round of the FA Cup, so if you're not going to the game why not join in the banter right here while the game is going on.
Maybe if you have a friend or family member texting you from the game you can post their views here for others to see as the game progresses.
You could also use this thread to discuss other interesting scores throughout the league as well as discussing this game afterwards if you have been along to the game.
What you discuss below is up to you but hopefully it can all be focused on one thread to make it easier for everyone to use.
pity there was so mony booing at the end, another clean sheet, they are on a good run of form but we stopped their game, think we'll have them at their place, mom for Ash Taylor, excellent
We are awful going forward, simple as that. We were the better team fair enough but my word our decision making was poor in the final third.
I know people will defend Curran but for me running about isn't enough as a striker. They will get more chances at their place and I fear our best chance may have gone. If only Welsh's brilliant effort had gone in.
I'd have them all in tomorrow practicing how to pass the ball to each other for 2 hours, it was terrible, specially 2nd half. We had enough chances at the beginning to win 3 games! Ash Taylor is OK defensively, but his distribution is on par with Goodisons lol. We are so going to regret not signing anyone on Thursday.

Absolutely shocking against another side that looked hardly more threatening than us.
It was easy to see why three of their last four games have ended 0-0.
We missed Shuker when he went off and Ian Moore was terrible really when he came on whilst Gornell did well but has to learn when he's offside - something that has always been a negative part of his game.
I couldn't see us winning at Orient but we did so I'm going to write us off again this time and hope I'm wrong again!
Mikey I'd have them all in tomorrow practicing how to pass the ball to each other for 2 hours, it was terrible, specially 2nd half. We had enough chances at the beginning to win 3 games! Only two hours ? Where are Parry and co ? They are total@#$%&because they know nothing of football . They should put a game together with some understand of what is required if they had NOBODY off field.
THey haven't got a brain between them, and there's none in the dugout.
Oh yeah cause it's Les's fault he's in this position init? Do you think he knew he was gonna be here for this long? We were cr@p but under Barnes we would of folded over and lost, we are becoming more solid defensively but we are so sloppy its unbelievable.
Totally agree Mikey, we badly needed a finisher or a creative spark to sign on thursday. That is why I feel we will go down, we just don't score enough. Gornell and Curran aren't finishers, Ricketts is lazy and Moore is well off form. Add to that Edds, Welsh and Taylor are all defensive minded and you can see why we look poor going forward.
last four won 2 lost one drawn one and three clean sheets ! come on plenty to be possitive about
I think some need to be a little more realistic about the situation we're in and cut the lads some slack !
110% agree with last post and nice to hear something positive.@gony
That said we did lack composure but I would argue we threatened in and around their box, they just always seemed to get the bounce of the ball to them!
How anyone can lay into les and the management team is beyond me. We were a team with a horrendous goal difference no organisation and getting destroyed.
They have come in sured up the defence, got some much needed organistation into the team and also getting the players working and fighting as a TEAM.
I think gornell given game has great potential and looks like he knows where the goal is. Hopefully we can start putting away the chances we are creating.
After Tuesdays performance though today was disapointing, the effort, committment and desire to win wasn't the same as Tuesday, and it needs to be like that every game for us to keep going and get out of this mess.
No disrespect to Aldershot like but they weren't the greatest team today, the confidence back-to-back wins could have brought may of enabled us to get something out of Tuesday's match. Instead we have another long away trip.
I feel pointing to the fact we have kept clean sheets recently is badly clutching at straws. They weren'texactly against top class opposition,Orient, Southend and now Aldershot. Also we were fortunate to beat Orient. I have loads of sympathy for Les, the guy isn't a manager but I wish he would drop this formation. Johnson is a joke, saying in his notes today the search for a manager continues, we are determined to find the right one blah blah.
Got my tickets for Huddersfield, going there definitely more in hope than expectation. If we keep a clean sheet there I will be amazed. I fear if they score early it could be a hammering. So fustrated after today, if we had a striker who aactually knew where the goal is we wouldn't need a replay.
we wre truly awful today the longer the game went on the worse we became, they were quite happy to take a draw and we more than obliged.
Nobody in the midfield or attack earned there money today would have to say gornell was awful, he hardly won a header and was luck not to be sent off as he kept going into challenges with his elbow which he was eventually booked for and the rest were little better, we couldnt make a simple 5 yard pass, pathetic.
We may yet get through to the next round but if we play like that on tuesday we will get hammered.
For those who say its a clean sheet u r clutching at straws it truly was a poor effort.
mart u havent got a clue mate , the lads were bad but at least we didnt concede, all we lack is a goal scorer , welsh is defence mid , ash is better centre half , edds is also defensive , other than barnett an shuker we have no1 , think we need 2 get rid ov ITM , 4 me he hasnt done a thing this season , gornell isnt good enough an curran is a good player but just carnt score , if we had sum1 who cud score it wud take the pressure off sum ov the lads an make sum games easier, also if we go down we will lose alot ov players 2 , welsh is only signed up till the end ov the season so dont think he will re sign ,
although we have tightned up at the back in recent games we have still conceded more goals than any other team in the league so to say we just need a goalscorer isnt correct in my opinion, we didnt have a goalscorer last season but still finished seventh because we were strong at the back.
we are still too weak in several areas and the squad is so small we only have 3 centre halfs and 1 of them is playing in midfield.
edds is supposed to be an attacking midfielder not defensive and has been furthest of the midfield 3 in recent weeks.
yes but the reason our goal difference is bad isn't because of the last 8 games or so. It stems from drummings earlier in the season, Millwall, Leeds, Charlton etc...
As i've said before we needed to tighten the defence up first then we have something to work with going forward. We are improving and that's all we can ask.
what u are sayin is that we need defenders , if we had a couple ov attackin mids or a couple ov strikers , players cud b moved 2 accommidate the defence , ie , edds ,taylor , even welsh cud do right back ,if we had a striker who cud score of half a chance , we cud b up 2 or 3 nil by half time with chances we have had against teams we have been beat by , thats what i was sayin , i think the best way 2 defend is attack , go an get the goals an most teams will fold , if we had a player on 10 goals or 15 goals do u think we wud b were we are now , no! , defence is not that bad , ye goal difference is bad but the state les picked this team up in was awful , ithink we can turn it around if we sign 1 or 2 players in jan , only time will tell , strikers are lettin us down !!!!!!!!
