Rovers striker Josh Macauley has today joined Unibond League side Colwyn Bay on loan for a month to gain more valuable experience as he looks to break into Rovers first team which at the moment is very crowded in the striking department…..

Young Tranmere Rovers striker Josh Macauley has today joined Unibond First Division North side Colwyn Bay on a one month loan deal that will provide him with valuable first team experience as he looks to break into Rovers' first team this season.

In moving to Colwyn Bay for the next month, Macauley teams up with former Rovers heroes Gary Jones (assistant Manager) and Dave Challinor who is still a player at the Wales based Club along with another former Rovers first team player in the shape of Alex Hay.

In addition to that trio of players, two of Macauleys former team-mates from his time in Tranmere's youth team, Louis Corrigan and Luke Denson, are now also plying their trade at Colwyn Bay in what is becoming a stomping ground for former Rovers players.

Josh follows in the footsteps of Rovers defender Ashton Taylor who spent a period on loan at Colwyn Bay last season and earned much praise from the Club as helped them reach the end of season play-offs.  His contribution to Colwyn Bay was recognised through a small presentation before the Seagulls faced Tranmere in a pre-season fixture earlier in the summer.

Josh is an 18 year old first year professional who has come through the Club's youth system and like Ash Taylor, will hope to eventually break into the first team proper having already made his first team debut last season and been an unused substitute five times in 2009-10 so far.

Speaking of the move for Macauley, Manager John Barnes said....

"Josh will benefit from playing first team at Colwyn Bay.  He has already scored three times for our Reserve team this season and hopefully will continue his form while on loan."

Macauley scored in Rovers Reserves' midweek 4-1 defeat against Rochdale Reserves at Rossendale United's ground and coincidentally Colwyn Bay travel to face Rossendale this Saturday with Macauley going straight into the squad for the trip.

Good news for Josh this. Hope he manages to kick on a level or two and get some vital experience, something which Ash Taylor did last season.

Definitely! It's a good move for him at this stage for sure and he will know Luke and Louis already of course too!
