Tranmere Rovers academy graduate Ashton Taylor has today agreed a one-year contract extension with the club, keeping him at Prenton Park until 2011.

Taylor became a professional at Prenton Park in December 2008, when he signed an 18 month contract with the club along with fellow youth team player Ryan Fraughan, after a string of impressive performances in the reserves and youth team.

After a loan spell at Colwyn Bay last season, which saw the gangly teenager play in both midfield and attack, Taylor made his first team debut as a substitute on the final day of last season when Tranmere drew 1-1 with Scunthorpe United.

A hugely impressive pre-season followed for Taylor, as he played at centre-back under new manager John Barnes, and this was followed by his full first team debut at Yeovil last Saturday, when Taylor played the full 90 minutes.

Born on the Wirral, Ashton can play right through the middle of a team and is a hugely promising young player.  It shows great ambition for the club to sign him up for a further year.

Speaking of Taylor's new deal, Tranmere Manager John Barnes said....

"Ash is a promising young defender.  He played well throughout pre-season and deserved to make his full debut on Saturday at Yeovil."

"He has a good example of the hard work being done by the Club with its Centre of Excellence and Youth system and I'm pleased he has extended his contract."

Ash Taylor himself added...

"I'm happy to have signed a new contract at Tranmere.  I've really enjoyed being part of the first team squad this summer and hope I can be involved regularly this season."
