Tranmere Rovers have re-signed Paul McLaren, just twelve months after he departed Prenton Park. The 32 year old midfielder tonight signed a two year deal, and becomes Barnes second new signing of the season, following the arrival of Alan Mahon.

Tranmere Rovers have today confirmed the signing of 32 year old midfielder, Paul McLaren. McLaren, who only departed Prenton Park 12 months ago, signed a 2 year deal this afternoon. He becomes John Barnes second signing, following the arrival of another ex Rovers player; Alan Mahon.

McLaren had been lniked with the club in recent weeks by fans and local media claiming he was training with John Barnes side, whilst earlier this morning his former club, Bradford City, announced they had cancelled McLarens contract by mutual consent.

McLaren Returns to Prenton Park after a Years Absence!

Speaking to the Official Tranmere Rovers Website, McLaren said...

"It's great to be back - in hindsight it was a mistake to leave.  I'm looking forward to working with John Barnes and Jason McAteer and can't wait to get playing again."

Rovers Boss John Barnes added.......

"I'm thrilled Paul has agreed to come back to the Club.  He is a very creative midfielder who is excellent in possession and is a great passer.  He is also a threat from set pieces and a great professional."

"He is a very experienced, quality player and I'm glad he is a part of the Club's future."

Hope Allott can put a tackle in! Mclaren can tend to go missing when we dont have possession.At least he is always fit and has played alot over the last few seasons.

Hopefully his passing will benefit the forwards we now have, who are a bit more mobile than Gareth Taylor (no offence to Gareth), so hopefully will benefit Curran, Moore and Baz.

Just concerned we could be weak when not in possession. Just need a centre back, right back and goalie now (and some back up for them!)

Please no, not Sherriff! We've got Cresswell, Taylor, Mahon, Shuker and Barnett who can all play on the left side!

i think after losing Midfielders Kay, Jenno and Sonko. Mahon, Allot and Mclaren are very good replacements.

I agree Dani, I'm happy with these replacements. I wouldn't want Sherriff back however. I do think that'd be a wrong move.

I'm very dissapointed with this. I don't think he will offer much and was certainly being carried by Jennings during his last season here.
He may be good at corners and free kicks but in open play, he really didn't do a lot.
This is a step backwards not forwards which leaves me thinking, we are not going anywhere this season if he playes regularly.

As McLaren returns, that means that a window has closed for young Curren.

McLaren will resume modelling duties for the new kit, its almost like being named captain!
