Tranmere have confirmed tonight that Reserve and Youth Team Striker Josh Macauley has signed a professional deal that will keep him at the Club until June 2010.

A regular for both the Reserve and Youth sides this season and in the youth team in particular in past seasons, 18 year-old Josh who is from Liverpool has scored 19 goals (2 in the Reserves and 17 in the Youth Team) this season in 27 appearances which is an impressive tally indeed.

Macauley made his first-team debut for the Club on the 24th January this year when Rovers beat Carlisle United 4-1 at Prenton Park, Macauley coming on as a substitute for Charlie Barnett late on.

Having been with the Club since the age of 14, the powerful young striker was today praised by Rovers Boss Ronnie Moore who told the Tranmere Rovers Official Website......

"Josh is a promising young player and a proven scorer at youth level.  He has a knack of finding the net and hopefully that will continue in his professional career."

"It shows the hard work being carried out at the Centre of Excellence through to the Youth Team is paying off.  It is fantastic to see another player come through who has been with us since a young age."

Club Chief Executive Mick Horton also added.....

"Josh is the latest player to sign a professional contract from our very successful youth development programme.  This shows the commitment that the Club has towards young players."

Josh became the fourth player to come through the Tranmere Youth system and make his First Team debut this season, following appearances from Terry Gornell, Aaron Cresswell and Danny Holmes.

Second year Youth Scholars Ash Taylor and Ryan Fraughan signed professional contracts earlier this year and who knows if there is more to come?
