With his testimonial game and meal fast approaching, Rovers goalkeeper John Achterberg is offering the chance for four Rovers fans to play in the Heroes match which takes place before the main event against Everton.

As if the excitement of John Achterberg's testimonial isn't enough already, news reached Total Tranmere this week that the Dutch legend is auctioning off special packages which will give four lucky supporters the chance to play in the Heroes Match prior to his main Testimonial game at Prenton Park on Monday 30^th March. 

The Heroes Match is set to feature a number of club legends when a squad of players from the Wembley 2000 Cup Final team take on a host of other players to have played alongside John during his time at Tranmere.  The likes of David Kelly, Clint Hill, Georges Santos and Wayne Allison are all expected to feature.

Following the Heroes game, the current Tranmere Rovers squad then take on Everton in a full game in front of what will hopefully be a big crowd.

Four separate playing packages will be auctioned which will allow each winning bidder the chance to play half of the match (which are twenty minutes each way) for one of the two sides.

As well as the auction to play, there are also opportunities for fans to bid on the chance to allow their child to be mascot on the night.  Several mascot packages will be available for both the Heroes Match as well as the main Tranmere vs Everton XI testimonial game.

Speaking about the offers to the fans, Achterberg said.....

"It is great to be able to give the supporters a once in a lifetime chance to play with some of the heroes of the past and to do so at Prenton Park." 

"The fans have been great to me during my time at Tranmere and so it is nice to be able to get them involved and closer to the action on what will be a special night for me, and hopefully one that they can enjoy as well."

The online auctions via Ebay started on Wednesday 18^th February and will each run for seven days but unfortunately due to technical issues at Total Tranmere we have only been able to report it today.

What do people feel about this?

On other Forums John is being accused of money-grabbing but I think that's perhaps a bit harsh.

This testimonial is about John and the appreciation of his time at Tranmere - let him take what he wants if Fans want to pay it.

If they dion't want to pay it they don't have to at the end of the day I suppose.

The whole point is that John is giving the fans who have been good to him, a chance to 'fulfil a dream' of theirs.

The idea of a testimonial is to make money for the player as said before if you don't like it dont pay.

I would like to play but couldnt run for 2 mins never mind 20 lol

I was thinking the same, I think it would be worth doing, I'd love to play in the match but I just wouldn't have the fitness levels to compete properly. I think if you'd paid that much money and a potentially large crowd is watching, you're gonna make a first class idiot out of yourself if you aren't running around properly!

Would love to play in that game my god. Don't forget they are past the point as well. I'm sure they will be knacked them self. It only takes a few weeks to loss your fitness never mind 10 years. I know some of them still play but alot don't week in week out. But i could not afford to play in it but would love to

It's an auction Dani mate so whatever the current bid is you have to beat that bid - you have until Wednesday when the auction ends I think.
